PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sean McNamara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tai Won Awn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McNamara's entrance music is Massive Attack - Teardrop (House M.D.). A fine choice. Awn has chosen The Bull God as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sean McNamara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tai Won Awn!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Awn misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
McNamara swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Awn is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by McNamara.
McNamara throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Awn's waist but Awn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McNamara off to one side.
Sean McNamara seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Awn throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McNamara sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Awn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in McNamara's guard.
McNamara looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

McNamara has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Awn off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Awn shoots in but McNamara avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A slow jab from Awn misses its intended target.
McNamara throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Awn.
McNamara will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McNamara bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Awn's head.
McNamara misses with a looping left.
Awn shoots in and drives through. McNamara sprawls well.
Awn moves out of range of the body kick.
McNamara misses with a jab, cross combination.

McNamara throws a hook but Awn blocks it.
McNamara throws a right hand that Awn ducks under and follows up with a left that Awn also avoids with ease.
Awn thuds a left hand into McNamara's body.

The referee warns McNamara that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Awn has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of McNamara's face.
Awn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Awn tries to control but McNamara wriggling away.

Awn can't control as he wanted to and McNamara manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Awn is keen to just control but McNamara is a slippery customer.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Awn prevents McNamara from improving his position.
McNamara moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Awn wants to control from the top but McNamara keeps moving.
Awn postures up in McNamara's guard and throws a big left but McNamara blocks it.
McNamara utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
McNamara fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Awn avoids it really well and circles away.
Awn shoots in and drives through. McNamara sprawls well.
Sean McNamara has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tai Won Awn.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McNamara shoots in but Awn avoids the takedown attempt easily.

McNamara scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
McNamara is breathing heavily.
McNamara wants to lay and pray for a moment but Awn keeps working.
Awn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McNamara wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Awn is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McNamara is looking to take a break and control but Awn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Awn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Awn tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tai Won Awn dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



McNamara clinches up against the cage.
Awn drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McNamara gets the underhooks and prevents it.

McNamara's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McNamara shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Awn as he avoids it easily.

Awn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Awn swings around for an armbar but McNamara sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Awn's guard.
McNamara slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells McNamara's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sean McNamara has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tai Won Awn.
McNamara wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Awn keeps control of McNamara as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
McNamara drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Awn gets the underhooks and prevents it.
McNamara is trying to drag Awn to the mat but Awn just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McNamara is looking to break free of the clinch but Awn has double underhooks.
McNamara has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Awn is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
McNamara is trying to break the clinch but Awn is controlling him.

McNamara ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McNamara no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Awn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Awn has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. McNamara avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McNamara lands a hook that snaps the head of Awn backwards.
McNamara wants to break the clinch but can't.

McNamara has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Awn clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Awn takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Awn trying to control the hands but McNamara breaks the grip.
What can Awn do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
McNamara is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Awn up.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
McNamara trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Awn tries to escape the position.

McNamara fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Awn, pushing him back against the cage.
Awn is working for takedown but McNamara is calmly controlling the position for now.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Sean McNamara just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Awn looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Awn wants to take a breather but McNamara is having none of it.
Awn working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

McNamara makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sean McNamara.
I think McNamara has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
