PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Halberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Last Chance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim Halberg looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Halberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Last Chance!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chance shoots in looking for a takedown. Halberg tries to sprawl out of it but Chance keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Halberg manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Chance closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Chance wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Halberg, who protects the arm well.
Chance tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Chance stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Chance shoots in but Halberg avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Chance is defended easily by Halberg.
Jim Halberg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Last Chance.
Chance tries to score a power double leg takedown but Halberg sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chance somewhat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Chance shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Chance was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Chance looks gassed!

Halberg defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Chance.
Chance sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Chance prevents Halberg from getting the reversal.

Chance is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Chance feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Chance stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Halberg swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Halberg is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Halberg is on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Halberg throws a big right hand that misses.
Halberg preventing the sweep.
Chance can't keep his opponent in guard - Halberg advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Chance is staying active underneath Halberg, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Chance wants to improve his position but Halberg is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Halberg trying to control the action but Chance is working from the bottom.
Chance moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Chance manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Halberg manages to get himself to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Last Chance dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Halberg throws a series of punches but Chance avoids them all with ease.
Halberg fails with the takedown.
Halberg lands a jab-cross combination.
Chance shoots in for a takedown but Halberg shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A combination from Halberg does no damage.
Halberg closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Chance shoots in and bounces Halberg off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Chance advances to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chance is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Halberg manages to get to full guard.

Chance gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Chance closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Halberg to the mat! Halberg manages to get full guard.

Chance stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Last Chance seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chance fails with the takedown
and Halberg counters with a right hand to the body.
Halberg ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Chance looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Halberg pushes Chance off looking to stand but Chance dives back in and keeps control.

Chance is working for a submission of some sort.
Chance works his way into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chance throws an elbow but Halberg slips to the side and avoids it well.
Halberg tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Chance working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chance tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chance working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Last Chance showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Chance gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Halberg counters with a three punch combo that has Chance backing up. Chance nods at Halberg to acknowledge the strikes.

Chance gets a takedown into half guard.

Chance is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Halberg has managed to free his arm - good work.
Halberg tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Halberg trying to hold on to Chance's head to control him but Chance postures up.
Halberg is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Chance moves into full mount! Halberg won't be happy about that!

Chance looking for a guillotine from mount but Halberg is having none of it.
Halberg is trying to reverse the position but instead Chance has taken his back - oops!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Halberg trying to get back to his feet but Chance is in full control for now.

Chance is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Halberg won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Chance off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Last Chance!
