PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alpha Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabiano Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alpha Dog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabiano Silva!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dog closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dog lands a few punches from side control.
Dog tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Dog decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Dog tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dog circles away from the clinch attempt.
Silva throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Dog darts in trying to clinch
and Silva counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

and Silva decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dog's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Dog wants to stand but Silva is controlling the position.
Silva is standing up over Dog. Dog looks to escape but Silva dives into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dog gets back to half guard.

Dog looking for submissions off his back.
Silva works his foot free and advances to mount.
Dog is squirming around, avoiding Silva's attempts to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva landing strikes from the mount and Dog is in trouble!
Silva misses with a head shot.
Silva trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Dog gets back to half guard.
Dog is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Silva not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Silva looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dog is looking to improve his position.

Silva seems to be working for a kimura but Dog defends the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva is thwarting Dog's attempts to control the position.
Dog is trying to get back to full guard.

Dog has one foot on Silva's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Dog feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dog is breathing heavily.

Dog drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Silva manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dog has Silva in his guard.
Silva is stalling in the full guard.
Silva looking to sit in guard and control but Dog gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Silva looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Silva keeping full guard, as Dog tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dog gets to his feet. Silva looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Silva fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dog sprawls well initially but Silva persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Silva trying to control the action but Dog is working from the bottom.
Silva passes to full mount!
Dog can't escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silva trying to control but Dog is having none of it.
Silva wants to take Dog's back but he can't do it this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Fabiano Silva will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Dog wants to control but Silva is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dog tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dog!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dog is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Silva jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Dog is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Dog and Silva has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dog keeps working.
Dog manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Silva is in trouble now - Dog has advanced to mount!

Dog stands up from mount. Strange move.
Dog wants to clinch

and Silva counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Dog is looking to escape.

Dog pushes Silva off and gets back to his feet.
Alpha Dog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dog moves into the clinch.
Silva takes a knee right on the jaw!


It looks like Fabiano Silva has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dog crunches a lovely knee into Silva's ribcage.
Dog trying to land knees to the body.
Dog using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Silva has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Silva breaks the clinch.

and Dog counters by moving into the clinch.

Dog jumps into guard, dragging Silva to the mat.
Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Dog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Silva thows a big elbow that misses.
Silva wants to control from the top but Dog keeps moving.
Silva throws a big right hand that misses.

Dog working for a triangle but Silva defends it easily.
Fabiano Silva has got the better of the ground game so far.

Dog had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Silva is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Dog Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Silva's back instead.
I really don't envy Silva right now.

Silva defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Dog's arms.
Dog doesn't have the hooks in and Silva manages to turn into his guard.
Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dog is keeping the position for now.

Dog is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dog throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Dog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Silva stands and steps away. Dog gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Dog slips a jab and a cross from Silva.
Dog tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Silva counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Dog takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Dog fakes the leg kick and cracks Silva in the body.

and Dog counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dog.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva tries for a takedown. No joy.

Dog breaks from the clinch.
Dog wants to clinch but Silva slips to the side

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dog won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Silva wants to control but Dog is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fabiano Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Silva scores with a sloppy right hand. Dog should have avoided that one.
Dog tries to clinch

and Silva holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Dog gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Silva pushes Dog off and scrambles back to his feet.

and Silva counters with an inside leg kick.
Silva closes the distance and clinches up with Dog, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes Dog against the cage but Dog circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Silva tries to clinch there but Dog circles away.

Silva fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dog, pushing him back against the cage.
Silva wants to get back to striking at distance but Dog won't allow it.
Silva stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Dog trying to stall but Silva improves his position.

Silva pulls guard.

Dog drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Silva manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dog has Silva in his guard.

Dog looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Dog looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Silva is defending well. Dog quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Silva has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Dog celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
