PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Juha Ratila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arttu Nieminen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Arttu Nieminen was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Juha Ratila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Arttu Nieminen!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nieminen is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ratila sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Nieminen wants to clinch up but Ratila keeps it at a distance.
Ratila fails with the takedown.
Nieminen looks for the body kick but Ratila saw that one coming.

and Ratila counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Nieminen's guard now.
Nieminen is looking to stand up but Ratila isn't so interested in that idea.

Nieminen wants to stand and escape but Ratila is having none of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ratila feints and as Nieminen raises his hands in defense, Ratila changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Nieminen wants to stand but Ratila is controlling the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ratila is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

and Ratila counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ratila is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Nieminen is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Ratila shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Nieminen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Nieminen pushes Ratila away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ratila gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Ratila is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Nieminen will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Nieminen regains half guard there - taking advantage of Ratila's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Nieminen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ratila stops Nieminen from getting back to his feet.

Nieminen manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Ratila is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Ratila seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nieminen for as long as he can get away with.

Juha Ratila is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ratila has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

I would just about give that final round to Arttu Nieminen.
I think Ratila has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
