The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn misses with a wild combination.
Penn throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Penn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but valaquez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A combination from Penn does no damage.
Penn moves in looking to clinch but valaquez pushes him off.
Penn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Penn scores with a one two! valaquez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
valaquez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Penn defends it nicely.

Penn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
valaquez pulls Penn in close to his closed guard and prevents Penn from doing any damage or advancing position.

valaquez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

valaquez has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Penn should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, valaquez has tightened it up now! Penn should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
