PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stuart Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brass Mckill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Stuart Johnson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Stuart Johnson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stuart Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brass Mckill!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mckill swats away the attempt to clinch by Johnson.
The fighters circling - Johnson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Johnson is looking to clinch but Mckill is avoiding it.
Johnson fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mckill shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mckill gets slowly back to his feet.
Mckill ducks under a wild hook from Johnson.
Stuart Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnson is looking to clinch but Mckill is avoiding it.
Mckill looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Johnson tries to clinch but Mckill is having none of it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson wants to clinch.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch but Mckill swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mckill misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Stuart Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brass Mckill.
Mckill fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Johnson throws a looping overhand right but Mckill ducks down to avoid it.
Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Mckill pushes him off.
Mckill misses with a takedown attempt - Johnson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Mckill shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Johnson but Johnson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Johnson is looking to clinch.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mckill swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Johnson tries to clinch there but Mckill circles away.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Johnson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Johnson leaves Mckill with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Johnson tries to clinch but Mckill is having none of it.
Mckill takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Johnson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mckill moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mckill misses with a takedown attempt - Johnson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Johnson lands a head shot.
Johnson tries to clinch there but Mckill circles away.
Johnson scores with a jab to the jaw.

Mckill feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mckill advances position into side control!
Johnson is breathing heavily.

Mckill working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Mckill tries for a kimura but Johnson is defending well.
Johnson wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Mckill is trying to get an arm triangle but Johnson is defending well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Johnson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mckill asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Mckill wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnson, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson tries to escape but Mckill is in control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Brass Mckill will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Mckill shoots for a takedown but Johnson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Johnson is looking to clinch but Mckill is avoiding it.
Johnson misses with a looping right.

Mckill closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Johnson to the mat! Johnson manages to get full guard.

Mckill postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Johnson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mckill, into his guard.
Johnson tries to stand but Mckill is controlling from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mckill is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Johnson wants to get up but he can't break Mckill's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mckill working for a triangle but Johnson defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mckill has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johnson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mckill working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Johnson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Johnson is looking to stand up but Mckill won't let him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brass Mckill showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Johnson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Johnson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mckill tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johnson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mckill somewhat.

Johnson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mckill is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Johnson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Johnson has escaped and now he's on top!
Johnson wants to get up but he can't break Mckill's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mckill working for submissions but it's allowed Johnson to get to half guard.
It looks like Johnson is going to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mckill tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Johnson has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Johnson tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Brass Mckill is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Mckill tries to lock up and control but Johnson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Stuart Johnson.
I think Mckill has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
