PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucky Stratton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Everybody Knows as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stratton fails with a takedown attempt.
Jones fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jones tries to clinch up but Stratton circles away and keeps his distance.
Stratton avoids a punch combination nicely.
Stratton shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Stratton throws a low kick but Jones avoids it.
Lucky Stratton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Stratton fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Jones has closed the distance and engaged Stratton in a clinch.

Jones connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Stratton some visible discomfort.
Stratton is breathing heavily.
Stratton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jones wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Jones is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Stratton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Jones tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones cracks Stratton with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones content just to control the position here.

Jones has hold of Stratton's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stratton manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Jones lands a big shot there that rocks Stratton but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jones has control of Stratton's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stratton regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Stratton is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Horrible takedown by Stratton or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.

Stratton doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jones counters with a single leg into guard. Stratton didn't expect that.
Jones stands and throws Stratton's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jones remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Jones stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Jones shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stratton manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Jones gets to his feet. Stratton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jones cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Jones postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Stratton looks a forlorn figure.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stratton is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.
Jones lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Jones is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Jones extends the arm and Stratton is forced to tap!
