Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sean Alvez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alvez's entrance music is Mama said knock you out. A fine choice. Sean Alvez has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza feints and as Alvez raises his hands in defense, Souza changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Souza sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Alvez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Souza on the ground.
Souza wants to control from the top but Alvez keeps moving.
Alvez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Souza controls the pace.
Souza slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Alvez is looking for a sweep.
Souza controls the position from side control.
Souza lands an elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Alvez wants to get back to his feet.
Souza wants to control but Alvez is keeping him busy.
Souza thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Alvez is breathing heavily.
Alvez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Souza has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Souza advances to mount.
Souza scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Alvez?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Souza lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Souza prevents Alvez from getting the reversal.

Souza is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Alvez is surviving well by controlling Souza's body position as best he can.

Souza is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Alvez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Souza can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alvez is looking to escape.
Alvez is in all sorts of trouble here.

Souza stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Souza shoots in but no luck this time.
Alvez with a poor takedown
and Souza counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Alvez's guard now.
Alvez wants to stand but Souza is controlling the position.
Souza in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Alvez is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Alvez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Thiago Souza dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Alvez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Alvez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Souza lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Alvez!
Souza postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Alvez looks a forlorn figure.
Alvez tries to hold on but Souza pushes him away.
Souza controlling the position easily from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Souza cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Alvez is squirming around, avoiding Souza's attempts to control the action.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Souza lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Alvez tries to lock up and control but Souza gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Souza working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Alvez looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Souza! Submission of the night perhaps?
