Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Stuey Griffen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Afonso Ferreira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffen's entrance music is This Is War. A fine choice. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stuey Griffen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Afonso Ferreira! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ferreira tries to avoid it but Griffen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ferreira to the ground. Ferreira escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Griffen misses with a double jab.
Griffen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ferreira. Griffen missing with a left hand there. Ferreira was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Ferreira tries for a takedown but Griffen circles away easily and Griffen counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ferreira thinking. Ferreira staying out of range there. Ferreira uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Griffen. Griffen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Griffen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Griffen drops back looking for a leg! Ferreira is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ferreira manages to kick Griffen off! Griffen jumps back into Ferreira's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ferreira managing to control the position. Ferreira wants to sweep here but Griffen controlling him for the moment. Griffen sitting in guard, not really doing much. Griffen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Griffen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ferreira is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ferreira has escaped and now he's on top! Ferreira trying to control the position from guard on top but Griffen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Griffen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Ferreira slips nicely into half guard. Ferreira stalling away here and it's allowed Griffen to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Ferreira throws and elbow that misses. Griffen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ferreira's guard. Nice move by Griffen! Griffen drops back looking for a leg! Ferreira is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ferreira manages to kick Griffen off! Griffen jumps back into Ferreira's guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Griffen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Griffen drops back looking for a leg! Ferreira is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ferreira manages to kick Griffen off! Griffen jumps back into Ferreira's guard. Ferreira is looking for a triangle but Griffen pushes his legs off easily.
Griffen postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ferreira is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Griffen, into his guard. Ferreira won't allow Griffen to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Griffen keeping moving, preventing Ferreira from controlling successfully. Griffen wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Ferreira is now in half guard. Ferreira wants to control but Griffen is keeping him busy. Ferreira wants to pass to mount but Griffen is defending the position. Ferreira is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Griffen is trying to maintain the position but Ferreira is very close to passing his half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Stuey Griffen dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.
Griffen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Griffen throws a right and a left that Ferreira avoids nicely. Griffen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ferreira sees it coming and avoids it easily. Griffen throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Ferreira misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ferreira with a poor takedown and Griffen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
It looks like Afonso Ferreira has been cut. Stuey Griffen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ferreira walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Griffen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ferreira circles away quickly and effectively.
That's one minute gone in the round. A punch combination from Griffen misses. Ferreira ducks under a wild hook from Griffen. Ferreira with a lazy takedown attempt and Griffen counters with a straight right hand. Stuey Griffen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Afonso Ferreira. Griffen doesn't succeed with the takedown and Ferreira counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Griffen is lucky that one didn't land flush. Griffen with a lazy takedown attempt and Ferreira counters with a head kick. That will keep Griffen thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Griffen throws a left and a right that both miss

That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffen wants to stand and escape but Ferreira is having none of it. Griffen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ferreira! Ferreira is trying to escape the mount but Griffen keeps good control and instead manages to take Ferreira's back.
I really don't envy Ferreira right now.
Griffen patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Griffen is looking for a rear naked choke here but Ferreira reverses the position brilliantly into Griffen's guard!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ferreira trying to control but Griffen is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Ferreira thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Ferreira working away. Ferreira is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Griffen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Griffen throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Afonso Ferreira has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Griffen connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Griffen uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Griffen swings and misses with a shot to the body and Ferreira decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Griffen's guard. Ferreira drops back, looking for a kneebar! Griffen looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Griffen looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Griffen! Ferreira takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. This has been an exciting period of action! Griffen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Afonso Ferreira has got the better of the ground game so far. Ferreira prevents Griffen from improving position. Griffen working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ferreira wants to control but Griffen postures up. Griffen works to advance to full mount. Ferreira defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Griffen prevents Ferreira from getting the reversal. Ferreira is controlling an arm, preventing Griffen from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Griffen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ferreira is surviving well by controlling Griffen's body position as best he can. Ferreira sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Griffen seems to be looking for submissions.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Stuey Griffen. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Griffen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
