Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Willie Herenton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Richard Jenkins! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jenkins misses with a takedown attempt - Herenton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Herenton avoids the body shot from Jenkins.
Herenton has closed the distance and engaged Jenkins in a clinch.
Jenkins manages to pull guard.
Jenkins throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jenkins looking for a sweep. Not yet Jenkins, not yet. Jenkins throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jenkins lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Herenton! Herenton wants to control but Jenkins is having none of it. Jenkins stands up from mount. Strange move.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herenton moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Jenkins circles away from the clinch attempt.
Herenton is looking to clinch. Herenton doesn't succeed with the takedown and Jenkins counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Herenton tries to land a sweep but no joy. Herenton could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Herenton preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Jenkins loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jenkins's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Jenkins preventing the sweep. Herenton is trying to control the position but Jenkins postures up. Jenkins stopping the sweep attempt from Herenton.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jenkins drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Herenton dives on top into guard. Jenkins looks gassed! Herenton advances position into side control! Jenkins is working to avoid the ground and pound but Herenton connects with a decent elbow. Jenkins tries to improve position but can't. Jenkins manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Jenkins moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Jenkins working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Herenton has passed into half guard!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Herenton is trying to control the action in half guard but Jenkins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jenkins is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Herenton pulls his head out easily. Herenton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jenkins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Jenkins is looking for a sweep. Herenton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Herenton wants to take a breather but Jenkins is having none of it. Jenkins is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Jenkins is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Herenton wants to control the pace but Jenkins is squirming around nicely. Herenton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Herenton stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Jenkins closes the distance but Herenton moves to the side and Herenton counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jenkins's guard now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herenton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jenkins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Herenton has managed to get both his arms back between Jenkins's legs - danger averted. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jenkins tries to land a sweep but no joy. Jenkins looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Herenton lands a couple of digs. Herenton tries to free his leg and advance position but Jenkins is retaining full guard. Herenton is posturing up here but Jenkins has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Herenton tries to roll out but it's too tight and Herenton has to tap! Slick submission there by Jenkins!
