PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DMT Trypp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesus Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, DMT Trypp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jesus Mendes!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes scores with a push kick.
Trypp circles away from the clinch attempt.

Trypp scores with a takedown into Mendes's guard.
Mendes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mendes keeping full guard, as Trypp tries to pass.

Trypp drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mendes looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mendes looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mendes!
Trypp looking for a sweep but Mendes has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Mendes wants to stand but Trypp is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mendes gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Mendes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Trypp moves into the clinch.

Trypp pulls guard.

Trypp isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mendes stacks Trypp on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mendes!
Mendes tries to advance to mount but Trypp denies him.

Mendes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Trypp knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mendes stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Trypp is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendes tries to clinch up.
Mendes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Trypp paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mendes throws a half hearted mid kick.
Mendes pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Trypp slaps away a takedown attempt from Mendes, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Trypp fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mendes, pushing him back against the cage.
Mendes is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Trypp is defending well for now.
Mendes is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Trypp using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Trypp has picked Mendes up - he's going for a ride! Trypp dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendes is trying to maintain the position but Trypp is very close to passing his half guard.
Mendes gets back to full guard.
Trypp wants to get up but he can't break Mendes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Mendes throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Mendes trying to keep a closed guard but Trypp is proving a slippery customer.
Trypp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mendes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mendes is looking to stand up but Trypp isn't so interested in that idea.

Trypp gets to his feet - Mendes follows without any prompting.
Mendes lands a head kick!
Mendes thuds his shin into the meat of Trypp's side.
Mendes wants to clinch but Trypp slips to the side

and Trypp counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Trypp.
Mendes tries to score a body lock takedown but Trypp shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
DMT Trypp has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jesus Mendes.
Mendes tries to pull guard but Trypp won't allow it.
Trypp on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
A frustrated look appears on Mendes's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mendes missing with knees to the body.
Mendes using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Trypp has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Mendes tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Trypp avoids it.
Trypp keeps control of Mendes as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Mendes blocks an elbow strike.
Mendes is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Trypp is defending well for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that DMT Trypp will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Mendes tries to clinch up but Trypp circles away and keeps his distance.

Trypp forces Mendes back against the cage and clinches.
Mendes taking a breather.

Trypp gets control of Mendes's arms and successfully pulls guard. Trypp will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mendes tries to stand but Trypp is controlling from the bottom.

Mendes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Trypp lands a decent punch to the body there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trypp looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mendes passes into side control.
An elbow from Mendes crashes against the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mendes tries for a kimura but Trypp is defending well.
Trypp avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Mendes.

Mendes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Mendes trying to control the action but Trypp is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mendes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Mendes has hold of Trypp's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Trypp seems comfortable defending it but Mendes has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Trypp is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Trypp is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Mendes couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jesus Mendes!
