The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nogueira stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nogueira wants it to stay on the feet. Nogueira finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Crusher avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nogueira throws a head kick that misses. Nogueira shoots and misses and Crusher counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Nogueira is looking for a sweep. Crusher is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Nogueira bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Crusher's head. Nogueira with a poor takedown and Crusher counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Nogueira keeping full guard, as Crusher tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Crusher landing some decent shots from guard. Crusher tries to free his leg and advance position but Nogueira is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Crusher postures up in Nogueira's guard and throws a big left but Nogueira blocks it. Crusher drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Nogueira dives on top into guard. Nogueira trying to control but Crusher is working from the bottom. Nogueira is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Crusher wants to sweep here but Nogueira controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Crusher looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Nogueira puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Nogueira seems to be looking for submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Nogueira closes the distance looking to clinch so Crusher counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Crusher stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Nogueira has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Crusher manages to get his head free but now Nogueira has transitioned to an armbar! Crusher grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Nogueira! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
