PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rico Choke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Choke comes to the cage accompanied by Birdman - 4 My Town Instrumental. Greg Johnson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rico Choke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Greg Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Choke feints and as Johnson raises his hands in defense, Choke changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Choke pushing down on Johnson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Choke tries to pass the half guard into mount. Johnson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Choke is trying to control the action in half guard but Johnson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Choke looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Choke tries to stand but can't do so whilst Johnson controls his leg.

Choke gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Johnson looks gassed!

Choke shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Choke postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Johnson to stand up.

Choke is taking a breather. Johnson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Choke sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Johnson defending well though.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Choke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Choke wants to stand but Johnson has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Choke wants to take a breather but Johnson is having none of it.
Johnson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Choke wants to stand up but Johnson has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Choke is looking for a kimura but Johnson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Choke to get the leverage.
Choke wants to take a breather but Johnson is having none of it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Choke takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Choke fails in his attempt to clinch.
Johnson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Choke.

Choke is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Johnson defends it well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Choke is trying to control the action in half guard but Johnson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Johnson is staying active underneath Choke, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Choke passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Johnson!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson tries to hold on but Choke postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Choke working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Johnson looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Choke! Submission of the night perhaps?
