Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Shemper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grant Kennedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Grant Kennedy enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Shemper! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Grant Kennedy! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A nice combination there by Kennedy.
Kennedy gets a takedown into half guard. Kennedy wants to work for an arm triangle but Shemper is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Shemper manages to get to full guard.
Kennedy trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Shemper tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kennedy wants to stand but Shemper is controlling his posture from full guard. Kennedy won't allow Shemper to sweep him here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shemper manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kennedy manages to get himself to full guard.
Kennedy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shemper throws a strike but Kennedy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Kennedy stopping the sweep attempt from Shemper. Kennedy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kennedy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Shemper manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kennedy has Shemper in his guard. Kennedy looks gassed!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Shemper drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shemper jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Kennedy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Shemper is aware though and is defending well. Kennedy isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Shemper stacks Kennedy on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Shemper! Shemper is trying to get an arm triangle but Kennedy is defending well. Kennedy is trying to control Shemper's posture but Shemper avoids it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shemper lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Kennedy tries to bench press Shemper off him but Shemper keeps the position. You can see the frustration on Kennedy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Shemper tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Kennedy is looking to reverse the position. Shemper is trying to get an arm triangle but Kennedy is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Shemper wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kennedy, who protects the arm well. Kennedy gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Kennedy looking for submissions off his back. Shemper is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kennedy manages to regain full guard. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Grant Kennedy dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Shemper misses with a takedown attempt - Kennedy sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Shemper tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Kennedy misses the shot to the body. Shemper fails to land the takedown. Shemper fails in his attempt to clinch. Kennedy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shemper looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Kennedy tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Kennedy is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shemper is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Shemper tries to buck Kennedy off but Kennedy is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shemper gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Shemper wants to control but Kennedy is having none of it. Kennedy trying to control but he's not successful this time. Shemper is looking to improve his position but Kennedy isn't that keen on the idea. Kennedy jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Shemper manages to avoid the submission attempt. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kennedy is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Shemper knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Shemper gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Kennedy uses his free foot to push down on Shemper's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Shemper. Shemper is trying to escape the mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shemper is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Kennedy looking to control but Shemper is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Shemper is working to get back to half guard.

It's a sloppy attempt though and Shemper jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Steve Shemper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Shemper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Kennedy has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Shemper doesn't defend quickly enough and Kennedy has managed to lock this one up! Can Shemper escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Kennedy on a fantastic submission victory.
