The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails to land the takedown.
Nice takedown defense from Joseph. No joy for Smith on that attempt.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jally Joseph has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pepe Smith.

so Joseph counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Joseph throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Smith prevents Joseph from getting back to his feet.
Smith wants to control from the top but Joseph keeps moving.
Smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Joseph is wriggling around but Smith manages to pass to half guard.

Smith stops Joseph from getting back to his feet.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Smith manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Smith throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Joseph because Smith loaded up on that one.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jally Joseph.
Well Joseph has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
