Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Guillermo Castillo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Erik Morales! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Seu Braga and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Castillo takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Morales swings for the body but Castillo moves out of range.
Castillo avoids the body shot from Morales.
Morales gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Castillo to score an easy takedown into full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Castillo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Castillo tries to free his leg and advance position but Morales is retaining full guard. Morales working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Castillo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Castillo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Morales is looking for a triangle but Castillo pushes his legs off easily.
Morales keeping moving, preventing Castillo from controlling successfully. Castillo slips nicely into half guard. Morales is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Castillo pulls his head out easily. Castillo is taking a breather. Morales says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Castillo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Morales for as long as he can get away with. Castillo takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castillo trying to control the action but Morales is working from the bottom. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Castillo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Castillo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Morales keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Castillo content just to control the position here. Castillo prevents Morales from getting the reversal. Castillo pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Castillo controlling from the full mount. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Castillo is landing with some decent strikes but Morales is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Castillo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. BOOM! Castillo connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The referee warns Morales that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Castillo unloading with bombs! Morales is looking to get to half guard. Morales takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Morales is in a horrible position here. Castillo smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Castillo is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Morales is surviving well by controlling Castillo's body position as best he can. Castillo trying to control but Morales is having none of it. Castillo prevents Morales from getting the reversal. Castillo landing shots from mount. Morales working to try and regain half guard.
Castillo is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Morales can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Castillo with a couple of short strikes. Castillo looking to control but Morales is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Morales is looking to get to half guard. Castillo is in the full mount, landing strikes. Castillo working for a guillotine from mount but Morales is in no mood to give up. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Castillo with the ground and pound from mount. Castillo working Morales over with strikes here. Guillermo Castillo dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Morales scores with a sloppy right hand. Castillo should have avoided that one. Castillo throws a sloppy head kick and Morales moves out of range easily. Castillo swats away the attempt to clinch by Morales. Castillo is looking to slow Morales down with leg kicks. Morales tries to close the distance and clinch up but Castillo swats him away and circles back towards the center. Castillo keeps the fight on the outside. Excellent takedown into side control there by Castillo. Castillo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Castillo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Castillo scoring with punches and elbows. Castillo wants to control but Morales is keeping him busy. Castillo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Morales has escaped the position, nice work there. Morales is trying to improve his position. Morales manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morales moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Castillo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Morales has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Castillo has managed to get both his arms back between Morales's legs - danger averted. Morales is breathing heavily. Castillo advances position into side control! Castillo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Castillo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Morales is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Morales is defending against the submission attempts here by Castillo.
Castillo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Morales keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Castillo stalling. Castillo wants to pass to mount but Morales is defending the position. Castillo is trying to work for a kimura but Morales is defending well.
Morales actively working from the bottom here. Castillo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Morales sees it coming and defends easily. Morales looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Castillo is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Morales!
