Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cleophus Washington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Tigechelar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Washington comes into the arena with The Way I Feel blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cleophus Washington! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Tigechelar! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Washington tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tigechelar paws at him with a jab and circles away. Tigechelar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Tigechelar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Washington clinches up against the cage. Tigechelar tries to break the clinch but Washington is controlling the position. Washington breaks from the clinch.
Tigechelar swats away the attempt to clinch by Washington. Tigechelar shoots for a double leg takedown but Washington sprawls well. He's pushed Tigechelar's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Cleophus Washington has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Tigechelar. Tigechelar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Washington circles away. Tigechelar looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Washington is looking to stand up but Tigechelar isn't so interested in that idea. Washington wriggles free and stands up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tigechelar uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Washington. Washington shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Washington tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Tigechelar is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Tigechelar is desperately trying to improve his position but Washington has a good base and remains in mount. Tigechelar tries to improve his position but instead Washington has taken his back! Washington controlling well, preventing Tigechelar from escaping the position.
Washington is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Tigechelar is defending well though. Washington let's go of the attempt for now. Washington not allowing Tigechelar to control his hands.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Washington wants to control the position but Tigechelar frees himself and scrambles - Washington manages to regain control in side control.
Tigechelar tries to get back to half guard but can't. Washington stands up. Washington fails in his attempt to clinch. Tigechelar shoots and misses and Washington counters with an inside leg kick. Washington closes the distance and clinches. Tigechelar looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Washington's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Washington tries to clinch up but Tigechelar circles away and keeps his distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tigechelar avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tigechelar has his takedown stuffed and Washington counters with a shoot takedown. Tigechelar fights it but they end up in guard. Tigechelar keeping moving, preventing Washington from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tigechelar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Washington defends well. Washington decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Tigechelar with a poor takedown and Washington counters with a nice double leg into guard. Washington avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Washington has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Tigechelar looks gassed! Washington is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Tigechelar wants to sweep here but Washington controlling him for the moment. Tigechelar is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Tigechelar looking for a sweep. Not yet Tigechelar, not yet. Tigechelar has his foot on Washington's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Washington works his way back into a safe position though. Washington trying to control the position from guard on top but Tigechelar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Tigechelar avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Washington stopping the sweep attempt from Tigechelar. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Washington gets a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Washington fails in his attempt to clinch. Washington gets caught flat footed, as Tigechelar shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Washington wants to stand but Tigechelar is controlling the position. Washington throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Washington shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Tigechelar can't escape the position.
Washington wants to control the pace but Tigechelar is squirming around nicely. Tigechelar looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Tigechelar is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Washington gets his way!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Tigechelar tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Washington goes for an armbar but Tigechelar turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Tigechelar. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Washington manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Tigechelar fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Washington sprawls well initially but Tigechelar persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Tigechelar is looking for a kimura but Washington is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tigechelar to get the leverage. Washington tries to get to full guard but Tigechelar has control of the leg. Tigechelar throwing shots but Washington is blocking nicely. Washington is looking for a sweep. Tigechelar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Tigechelar trying to control from half guard but Washington is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tigechelar stops Washington from getting back to his feet.
Tigechelar not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Tigechelar wants to pass the guard but Washington is defending well.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Washington tries to close the distance and clinch but Tigechelar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Tigechelar with a poor takedown and Washington holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Washington tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Tigechelar on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cleophus Washington will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Washington is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Washington has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tigechelar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Tigechelar drops back looking for a leg! Washington is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Washington manages to kick Tigechelar off! Tigechelar jumps back into Washington's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tigechelar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tigechelar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Washington looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Washington got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tigechelar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Washington has managed to get both his arms back between Tigechelar's legs - danger averted. Washington stands up and waves to Tigechelar to follow him. Washington has closed the distance and engaged Tigechelar in a clinch.

Tigechelar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Tigechelar rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Washington moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Cleophus Washington seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tigechelar tries for a takedown but Washington circles away easily and Washington counters with a nice double leg into guard. Tigechelar keeping moving, preventing Washington from controlling successfully. Tigechelar looking for a guillotine here but Washington defends easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Washington gets to his feet. Tigechelar looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. He has Tigechelar in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Tigechelar is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Washington manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Washington keeping moving, preventing Tigechelar from controlling successfully. Tigechelar is looking to work some ground and pound but Washington has wrist control. Tigechelar won't allow Washington to get back to his feet. Steve Tigechelar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Washington has a closed guard, preventing Tigechelar from standing up. Washington managing to control the position. Washington's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Washington wants to stand and escape but Tigechelar is having none of it.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Washington closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. It looks like Washington is going to stand back up.

And that's the end of the fight! Cleophus Washington showed his dominance in that final round. Well Washington has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
