The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akagi gets a takedown into half guard.
Akagi is looking to advance position but Gomez won't allow it.
Akagi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Akagi prevents Gomez from improving his position.
Gomez looking for submissions off his back.
Akagi is looking for a kimura here.
Gomez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Akagiis looking to pass into half guard but Gomez pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Gomez is in guard.

Gomez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Akagi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gomez has Akagi in his guard.

Akagi seems to be working for a kimura but Gomez defends the submission attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gomez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Akagi is pushing down on Gomez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gomez is fighting to maintain full guard but Akagi has managed to sneak the leg through.
Akagi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Akagi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gomez tries to roll over but Akagi keeps him under control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryobun Akagi dominated that round.

It looks like Ryobun Akagi has been cut.
Akagi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Akagi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Akagi is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gomez has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gomez can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Akagi blocks Gomez's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Gomez is in all sorts of trouble here.
Akagi is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Gomez is forced to tap! Great finish!
