Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Lyntus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John John! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lyntus shoots in looking for a takedown. John tries to sprawl out of it but Lyntus keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. John manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Lyntus fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Lyntus misses with a straight left. Lyntus closes the distance and clinches. John keeps control of Lyntus as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. John stalls. John tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Nick Lyntus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John John. John tries to pull guard but Lyntus won't allow it.
John tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lyntus just stands there and leans against the cage. John keeps control of Lyntus as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Lyntus wants to break free but John has control.

John shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lyntus pinned against the cage. Lyntus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Lyntus fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. John moves in looking to clinch but Lyntus pushes him off. Lyntus moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
John is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. John defending well as Lyntus loads up on a big left hand. Lyntus looks to land a left hand but John moved out of range nicely. Lyntus throws an uppercut from half a mile away. John sees it coming and avoids it easily. John avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lyntus doesn't succeed with the takedown and John counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. John drops back looking for a leg! Lyntus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lyntus manages to kick John off! John jumps back into Lyntus's guard. John looks gassed! John won't allow Lyntus to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lyntus trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Lyntus is working an open guard so John takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. The fight stays on the outside here - Lyntus looks like he's thinking about clinching though. John keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Lyntus. John keeps the fight on the outside. John tries to clinch but fails miserably and Lyntus counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. John is looking to get back to full guard here but Lyntus has managed to pass to side control instead. Lyntus stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John tries to keep at a distance but Lyntus has taken the fight into the clinch. John changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Lyntus fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Lyntus has clasped his hands together around John's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Lyntus decides to take the fight back to the feet. Lyntus tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but John swivels and escapes. John darts in trying to clinch and Lyntus counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. A jab lands there for Lyntus.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lyntus throws a jab when John was well out of range. Lyntus throws an overhand right that lands on John's shoulder, as John tries to avoid the shot. John looks to clinch letting Lyntus counter with a right hand. Lyntus lands a nice looking body shot.
John bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Lyntus misses with an uppercut
and John counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by John. Lyntus is looking to break free of the clinch but John has double underhooks. John fails to pull guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. John tries to pull guard but Lyntus won't allow it.
John jumps guard but Lyntus stands there with John around his waist. John gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Lyntus wants to get back to striking at distance but John won't allow it.
Lyntus wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but John has him pressed against the cage. John managing to block the knees to the body from Lyntus.
John using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Lyntus has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
John prevents Lyntus from breaking the clinch. John escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lyntus throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Lyntus throws a lazy uppercut
and John counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by John. John wants to get up but he can't break Lyntus's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Nick Lyntus overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Lyntus is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Lyntus tries to break the clinch but John is controlling the position. Lyntus gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, John regains guard.

John throws a nice inside leg kick. John tries to clinch up and Lyntus counters with a straight right hand. John wants to clinch but Lyntus slips to the side and Lyntus counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Lyntus looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for John! John working to try and regain half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Both fighters are breathing heavily. John really wants to buck Lyntus off and get back to his feet. Lyntus wants to control the pace but John is squirming around nicely. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. John is looking to get to half guard. Lyntus can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as John is looking to escape. John tries to hold on but Lyntus postures up. Lyntus controlling from the full mount. John regains half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. It looks like Lyntus is going to stand back up.
John moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. John has his foot on Lyntus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lyntus works his way back into a safe position though. John throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Lyntus stands and steps away. John gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Nick Lyntus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. John wants to clinch and Lyntus counters into the clinch. Nicely done. The referee calls for John to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. John tries to land knees in the clinch but Lyntus avoids the damage to the body. John John has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Lyntus wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
John tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lyntus smiles and moves away.
Lyntus swats away the attempt to clinch by John. Lyntus circles away from the clinch attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Lyntus looks to land a right hand but John moved out of range. A low kick from Lyntus misses and John counters with a takedown into side control. Lyntus wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! John in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Lyntus is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
