PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Colt Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Francis Highway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Colt Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Francis Highway!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cannon fails in his attempt to clinch.
Highway has a takedown stuffed.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Highway.

Highway looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Highway wants to control but Cannon is keeping him busy.
Cannon gets back to half guard.
Highway lands with a punch from half guard.
Cannon has hold of Highway's hands but Highway slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Cannon moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Cannon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Highway trying to move into half guard but instead Cannon has managed to sweep!
Cannon trying to control but Highway is working from the bottom.
Cannon trying to stand up but can't free himself from Highway's guard.
Cannon trying to control the position from guard on top but Highway is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Highway is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cannon stands and throws Highway's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Cannon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Highway keeps working.

Cannon stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Cannon misses with a few strikes there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cannon rushes Highway and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Highway tries to pull guard but Cannon won't allow it.
Highway can't get the takedown.
Colt Cannon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Francis Highway.
Highway fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Cannon lands with a right to the head.
Highway gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cannon.
Cannon is leaning against Highway and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Cannon prevents the takedown attempt.
Cannon landing some nice looking knees to the body.
A left hand lands to the body for Cannon.
Cannon lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Cannon pushes Highway back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Knees in the clinch landing for Cannon.
Highway drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cannon pulls his leg out and moves away.
Highway looks gassed!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Highway changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cannon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cannon sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Highway looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Highway stops Cannon from getting back to his feet.
Cannon tries to roll over but Highway keeps him under control.
Highway trying to control from half guard but Cannon is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cannon keeping control of the position.
Cannon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Highway is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Colt Cannon will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Highway tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cannon swivels and escapes.
Highway dives in and grabs Cannon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cannon pushes down on Highway's head and hops out.
Highway fails with a takedown attempt.
Colt Cannon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Francis Highway.
Highway takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Cannon fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Colt Cannon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Highway tries to keep at a distance but Cannon has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cannon lands a body shot in the clinch.
Highway jumps guard but Cannon stands there with Highway around his waist. Highway gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Cannon digs a right hand into Highway's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Highway's gas tank.
Cannon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Highway goes for a takedown in the clinch but Cannon prevents it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cannon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Highway slaps away a takedown attempt from Cannon, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Highway shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cannon sprawls well. Cannon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Highway gets slowly back to his feet.
Cannon lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Cannon throws a nice head kick!
Highway shoots for a double leg takedown but Cannon sprawls well. He's pushed Highway's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Cannon listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Cannon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Highway as he jumps to the side.

Cannon gets caught flat footed, as Highway shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Highway looking to sit in guard and control but Cannon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cannon chips away with some ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cannon missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cannon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cannon throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Highway is trying to control the position but Cannon postures up.
Highway wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Cannon is now in half guard.
Cannon tries to stand but can't do so whilst Highway controls his leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cannon wants to take a breather but Highway is having none of it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Highway avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cannon misses with a double jab.
A combination from Cannon does no damage.
Highway shoots in looking for a takedown. Cannon tries to sprawl out of it but Highway keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cannon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cannon wants to clinch up but Highway keeps it at a distance.
Cannon tries a head kick but it misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Highway tries for a takedown but Cannon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Cannon works over Highway's head and body with a nice combination.

Highway is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cannon's half guard.
Cannon wants to control but Highway is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cannon tries to kick Highway off but Highway keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Highway throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Highway is nestled in close to Cannon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cannon is looking to escape.
Highway is looking to take a break and control but Cannon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Colt Cannon dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Highway tries for a takedown but Cannon circles away easily

and Cannon counters by clinching up.
Highway tries to score a body lock takedown but Cannon shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Cannon decides to pull guard.
Cannon keeping moving, preventing Highway from controlling successfully.
Highway in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cannon being controlled here, momentarily.
Highway throws a strike but Cannon rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Highway looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Cannon passes into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Highway gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Highway tries to improve his position but Cannon has taken his back! Cannon has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Highway tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Cannon pushes Highway away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Colt Cannon!
