Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zach Parise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Smithers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smithers has chosen Metallica - No Leaf Clover as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zach Parise!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Smithers!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithers slips a straight right by Parise.
Smithers misses with a few strikes there.
Smithers tries to bum rush Parise with a series of wild strikes but Parise uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Smithers lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Parise circles away quickly and effectively.
Parise scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Parise moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Jim Smithers has been cut.
Smithers misses with a wild combination.
The fighters circling - Parise throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Parise misses with a hook.
Parise cracks a nice hook into Smithers's ribs.
Parise looks to land a right hand but Smithers moved out of range.

Parise gets caught flat footed, as Smithers shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Smithers is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Parise is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Parise has escaped and now he's on top!

Parise in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Parise trying to control but Smithers is working from the bottom.

Smithers is working an open guard so Parise takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Smithers moves in looking to clinch but Parise pushes him off.
Smithers tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Parise swivels and escapes.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Smithers.
Smithers fails to land with a series of punches.
Smithers takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Zach Parise is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Smithers shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Parise is trying to defend but Smithers finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Parise might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Smithers thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Parise has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smithers can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Smithers trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Parise lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smithers!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Smithers manages to escape and get back to his feet!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Smithers shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Parise thows a left - swing and a miss!
Parise throws a hook to the side of Smithers's head but Smithers sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Parise is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Smithers.

Parise is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Smithers shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Parise's guard.

Parise wants to sweep but Smithers has passed to side control!

Parise has a hand on Smithers's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Smithers takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Smithers is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Parise has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Parise wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Smithers is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smithers is breathing heavily.
Smithers wants to pass the guard but Parise is defending well.

Smithers uses his free foot to push down on Parise's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Parise.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Smithers is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Parise is surviving well by controlling Smithers's body position as best he can.
Parise sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Smithers is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jim Smithers will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

I would just about give that final round to Jim Smithers.
