The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sherinian tries to clinch there but Burnett circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Burnett.
Sherinian is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sherinian shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Burnett counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Sherinian doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Burnett counters with a nice body shot.
Sherinian gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sherinian takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
DJ Burnett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derek Sherinian.

and Burnett counters with a single leg into guard. Sherinian didn't expect that.
Burnett controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Sherinian has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Burnett can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Burnett postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Burnett has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Burnett wants to stand but Sherinian is controlling his posture from full guard.

Sherinian looking for a guillotine here but Burnett defends easily.

Burnett drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Burnett jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Burnett gets to his feet - Sherinian follows without any prompting.
Burnett throws a solid leg kick but Sherinian takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Burnett.
Sherinian gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Burnett counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Sherinian swats away the attempt to clinch by Burnett.
Sherinian doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Burnett counters with a series of strikes. Sherinian will be more careful next time no doubt.

Burnett shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sherinian napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Sherinian is looking for a sweep.
Sherinian is trying to control Burnett's posture but Burnett avoids it.

Burnett decides to stand back up. Burnett steps back and let's Sherinian get back to his feet.

Derek Sherinian seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A solid leg kick lands there for Burnett.

Sherinian manages to work his way to half guard, despite Burnett's best efforts.

Burnett in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Sherinian tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Burnett!
