Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Denny Prokopos!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romulo Costa!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Prokopos closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Prokopos lands in his opponent's guard.
Prokopos trying to control but Costa is working from the bottom.

Costa throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Costa keeping moving, preventing Prokopos from controlling successfully.
Prokopos is pushing down on Costa's leg trying to pass to half guard. Costa is fighting to maintain full guard but Prokopos has managed to sneak the leg through.
Costa tries to get to full guard but Prokopos has control of the leg.
Prokopos moves into full mount! Costa won't be happy about that!

Costa defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Prokopos.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Prokopos prevents Costa from getting the reversal.
Prokopos takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Prokopos wants to take his opponent's back but Costa doesn't allow it.

Prokopos goes for an armbar but Costa turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Costa.
Costa wants to get up but he can't break Prokopos's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Costa pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Prokopos is keeping the position for now.

Prokopos working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Costa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Costa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Prokopos wants to control but Costa passes easily into half guard.
Costa passes the guard and advances to mount!

Costa moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Prokopos has worked his arm free - good work by Prokopos!
Prokopos manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Prokopos wants to pass to mount but Costa is defending the position.

Prokopos looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Costa wants to sweep but Prokopos has passed to side control!
Prokopos moves into full mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Prokopos working for a guillotine from mount but Costa is in no mood to give up.
Costa tries to improve his position but instead Prokopos has taken his back!

Prokopos is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Costa with him. Costa is trying to defend but Prokopos has an arm under the chin now! Costa grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Denny Prokopos!
Denny Prokopos retains his bantamweight title!
