PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Don Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stevie Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Walker's choice of entrance music: Thugs. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stevie Walker!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hall throws a right and a left that both miss.
Walker leaves Hall with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Walker misses with a hook.
Walker looks to score with a jab to the body but Hall is just out of range.

Hall shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hall was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Hall cracks Walker with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hall tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Hall jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Walker manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The strikes coming from Hall are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Walker avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hall.
Hall has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hall sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
BOOM! Hall connects with a massive shot to the dome!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hall moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Walker has worked his arm free - good work by Walker!

Hall swings around for an armbar but Walker sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hall's guard.
Walker wants to control from the top but Hall keeps moving.
Hall will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Hall not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hall looking to hit a scissor sweep but Walker is one step ahead there.

Walker trying to control but Hall is working from the bottom.
Hall wants to sweep here but Walker controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Walker ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Stevie Walker is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hall fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Walker looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Walker.
Walker throws a big shot that misses.
Walker chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Walker throws a series of punches but Hall avoids them all with ease.

Hall throws a right and a left that both miss.
Walker digs a good hook to Hall's body.
Hall will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Some wild striking there from Hall.
Walker looks to land a left hand but Hall moved out of range nicely.
Walker throws an overhand right that lands on Hall's shoulder, as Hall tries to avoid the shot.
Hall scores with a body shot.
Hall blocks a head kick by Walker.
Walker is looking to clinch but Hall is avoiding it.
Hall throws a nice looking combination but Walker bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Walker counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Walker scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Hall looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Some wild striking there from Walker.
No joy there for Walker, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Stevie Walker will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Walker throws out a powerful jab.
Hall tries to bum rush Walker with a series of wild strikes but Walker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A decent looking cross lands there for Walker.
Walker gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hall.
Walker throws a looping overhand right but Hall ducks down to avoid it.
Hall throws a combination that misses
and Walker counters with a three punch combo that has Hall backing up. Hall nods at Walker to acknowledge the strikes.

Hall gets the takedown into side control.
Walker is not content to let Hall control the position.
Walker is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hall laying and praying for a moment but Walker takes advantage and regains half guard.

Hall is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hall thows a huge punch but Walker dodges it nicely.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Hall frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Hall wants to control the pace but Walker is squirming around nicely.
Hall is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Walker is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Walker is trying desperately to improve position.
Hall controlling from the full mount.

Hall moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Walker has worked his arm free - good work by Walker!
Hall wants to lay and pray for a moment but Walker keeps working.

Hall tries to move into full mount but can't pass Walker's legs.
Walker gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Hall wants to control the pace but Walker is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Don Hall just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Walker pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Walker lands a jab-cross combination.
Hall walks forward, straight into a front kick from Walker.
Hall rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Walker moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hall swings for the body but Walker moves out of range.
Don Hall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Danga de danga de dang - Walker scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Don Hall has been cut.
Walker throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hall throws a right and a left that Walker avoids nicely.
Hall scores with the left hand. Walker knows he should have avoided that one.
Hall slips under a jab.
Hall misses with a double jab
and Walker counters with a low kick, right behind Hall 's knee.
Hall circles away from the clinch attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stevie Walker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Don Hall's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hall misses with a takedown

and Walker counters by moving into the clinch.
Hall goes for a takedown attempt but Walker pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hall will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hall fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Walker misses with a kick to the body.

Walker throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hall stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Hall connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Stevie Walker seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Walker bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hall's head backwards.
Hall blocks a head kick by Walker.
Walker takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Walker fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hall.

Hall trying to control the position but Walker is working away.
Hall scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Walker to see if he's OK.
Walker tries to improve position but can't.

Hall goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Walker has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hall but great work by Walker.
Hall manages to work his way to half guard, despite Walker's best efforts.
Hall wants to improve his position but Walker is controlling well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hall wants to control but Walker is keeping busy.
Walker tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Hall.

Hall is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Walker pulls his head out easily.
Hall is not content to let Walker control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Walker clinches.
Hall is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Walker is defending well for now.
Walker works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Walker's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Walker throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
A left and a right from Hall both land. Nice combination.
Walker misses the shot to the body.

and Hall counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Hall throws a shot from downtown. Walker moves away and avoids it.
Walker lands a really nice looking cross but Hall seems unphased.

Hall throws a right hand that Walker ducks under and follows up with a left that Walker also avoids with ease.
Hall lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Walker circles away quickly and effectively.

Walker throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hall stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Walker turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Hall tries to bum rush Walker with a series of wild strikes but Walker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Walker has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Walker there as he acknowledges the shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hall scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Walker tries to clinch but Hall moves out of range.
Walker keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Don Hall showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Walker has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
