Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stew Grif (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stew Grif is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stew Grif!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Grif sprawls well. Grif wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.
Silva slips a jab and a cross from Grif.
Silva dives in and grabs Grif's left leg, looking for a takedown. Grif pushes down on Silva's head and hops out.

Grif shoots in and bounces Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Silva keeping full guard, as Grif tries to pass.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva wants to stand but Grif is controlling the position.
Grif trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Grif pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silva is keeping the position for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Silva is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Grif is controlling him.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Grif decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Grif tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Grif is looking to advance position but Silva won't allow it.
Grif is trying to control the action in half guard but Silva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Grif is stalling here. Silva is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Grif seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Silva has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Silva decides to stand back up.
Grif misses with a wild body shot.
Grif lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Grif is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Silva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Grif counters with a takedown into side control.
Grif staying calm.
Silva might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Silva dodges the ground and pound from Grif.
Grif working the ground and pound but Silva is defending the strikes.

Grif decides to stand up, so the ref orders Silva to his feet.
Grif tries a low kick but Silva avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stew Grif dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Grif is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Silva's half guard.
Grif is just content to waste time from the top position. Silva takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Grif controls from within his opponent's guard.
Grif wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva keeping full guard, as Grif tries to pass.
Grif throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silva works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Grif accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Grif trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Grif is looking to stand up but Silva won't let him.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Silva stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Silva wants it to stay on the feet.
Silva misses with a combination

and Grif counters with a shoot takedown. Silva fights it but they end up in guard.
Grifis looking to pass into half guard but Silva pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Silva is in guard.
Grif is breathing heavily.
Grif throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Silva wants to control from the top but Grif keeps moving.
Grif working a defensive guard but Silva manages to pass into side control anyway.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Grif pushes Silva away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Silva gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Silva decides to stand back up. Silva steps back and let's Grif get back to his feet.
Silva misses with a takedown

and Grif counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Grif.
Grif throws a strike but Silva rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Grif manages to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stew Grif showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Silva misses with a takedown

and Grif counters with a single leg into guard. Silva didn't expect that.

Silva is working an open guard so Grif takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Grif looks for a takedown but Silva sprawls well.

Grif shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Silva's guard.

Grif won't allow Silva to sweep him here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Silva wants to get back to his feet but Grif is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Grif has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Silva is proving hard to escape from.
Grif trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Grif.

Grif closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Grif getting side control.
Grif lands strikes from half guard.
Grif thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silva's head.
Grif is pressing down on Silva's thigh, looking to free his foot. Silva is holding on for now.
Grif seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Silva is trying to stand up here but Grif is controlling him well.

Stew Grif comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Grif has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
