PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Stalin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Mine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Mine's choice of entrance music: Planlos- Es kommt wie es kommt. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joseph Stalin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joey Mine!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mine misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mine checks a low kick from Stalin.
Mine throws a solid leg kick but Stalin takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Mine.
Mine tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Stalin misses with a takedown attempt
and Mine counters with a head kick. That will keep Stalin thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Mine avoids the body shot from Stalin.

Mine closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Stalin did well to prevent Mine getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mine is pressing down on Stalin's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stalin is holding on for now.

Stalin is looking to control Mine's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stalin avoid being mounted?
Stalin pushes Mine off looking to stand but Mine dives back in and keeps control.
Stalin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mine is working away from the top position though.
Stalin tries to get to full guard but Mine has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mine performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mine throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Stalin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mine looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mine dodges the ground and pound from Stalin.
Mine wants to control but Stalin postures up.
Mine is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Stalin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Mine has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Stalin is working away from the top position though.
Stalin passes to full mount!

Stalin avoids the attempt from Mine to control.
Mine has given up his back here.
Mine's corner are yelling at him, telling him to just focus on controlling Stalin's hands.
Stalin trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Stalin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Stalin missing with strikes from the back.
Mine wants to escape the position.
Stalin misses with punches from the back.
Stalin doesn't have the hooks in and Mine manages to turn into his guard.
Mine looks gassed!
Mine trying to control the position from guard on top but Stalin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stalin is trying to keep Mine in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joey Mine dominated that round.
That's time! Stalin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

enabling Stalin to counter with a crisp jab.

Mine drives through and clinches with Stalin against the cage.
Stalin goes for a takedown attempt but Mine pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Mine counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mine not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Stalin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stalin.
Stalin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mine manages to get himself to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mine is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Stalin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mine's head.
Stalin tries to stand but Mine is controlling from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stalin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Stalin controls from within his opponent's guard.
Stalin wants to control from the top but Mine keeps moving.

Mine is controlling Stalin's posture.
Let's hope that Mine has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Stalin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mine is one step ahead there.
Stalin controls Mine momentarily but Mine frees himself.

Joey Mine showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

and Mine counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stalin's guard now.
Stalin will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Mine's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mine wants to control from the top but Stalin keeps moving.
Mine won't allow Stalin to get back to his feet.
Mine controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Stalin wants to get back to his feet but Mine is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mine is stalling in the full guard.
Stalin trying to keep a closed guard but Mine is proving a slippery customer.
Stalin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Stalin seems a little lost for a moment, as Mine dominates the positioning.
Stalin prevents Mine from moving into mount.

Mine decides to stand up, so the ref orders Stalin to his feet.

Mine closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Mine breaks from the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joey Mine comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mine has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
