PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Artsi Lintsi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joni Valimaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lintsi's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Pentagram Burns. Valimaki has chosen Clint Mansell - Lux Aeterna as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Artsi Lintsi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joni Valimaki!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lintsi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Lintsi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Valimaki is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Lintsi.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Valimaki tries to move into full mount but can't pass Lintsi's legs.
Lintsi is looking to regain half guard here but Valimaki keeps moving and retains side control.
Valimaki lands a nice forearm strike.

Lintsi gets back to half guard.
Lintsi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Valimaki lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Lintsi wants to get back to full guard.

Valimaki landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Lintsi wants to get back to his feet.
Valimaki is nestled in close to Lintsi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Valimaki wants to pass to mount but Lintsi is defending the position.

Lintsi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Valimaki is aware though and is defending well.
Valimaki lands a couple of digs.
Valimaki is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Valimaki seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Valimaki stands and steps away. Lintsi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Lintsi has an active guard here but Valimaki has managed to pass into half guard.

Valimaki slips a nice elbow through Lintsi's hands, connecting with Lintsi's forehead.
Valimaki is taking a breather. Lintsi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Valimaki looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Lintsi is in trouble now - Valimaki has advanced to mount!
Valimaki trying to control but he's not successful this time.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Valimaki cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Valimaki lands a heavy elbow.
BOOM! Valimaki connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Valimaki is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lintsi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lintsi shrugs it off.
Valimaki punching from mount but Lintsi doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Lintsi sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Lintsi is trying to get back to full guard.

Lintsi is looking for a sweep. Valimaki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Valimaki moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Lintsi.
Lintsi is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Lintsi actively working from the bottom here.
Lintsi is trying to get back to full guard.
Valimaki is nestled in close to Lintsi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Lintsi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lintsi.

Lintsi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Valimaki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Valimaki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lintsi is trying to control the position but Valimaki postures up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joni Valimaki dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lintsi stuffs the takedown.
Lintsi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Valimaki counters with a takedown into side control.

Valimaki stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Valimaki postures up in Lintsi's guard and throws a big left but Lintsi blocks it.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lintsi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Valimaki defends well.
Valimaki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Valimaki content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Lintsi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Valimaki is one step ahead there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lintsi pushes a forearm under Valimaki's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Valimaki is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
