Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Rubim! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Gracie! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rubim scores with a jab. Gracie acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Gracie dodges the punch combination from Rubim.
Rubim misses with a hook. Gracie ducked under it nicely. Rubim catches Gracie napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Gracie to the canvas!
Gracie is rocked! Rubim controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Gracie is still in real trouble! Can Rubim finish him? Rubim wants to stand but Gracie is controlling his posture from full guard. Gracie looking for a sweep. Not yet Gracie, not yet. Gracie seems to have recovered his senses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie controls Rubim momentarily but Rubim frees himself. Rubim stays in close to Gracie's body and controls the position. Gracie trying to control the position.
Rubim has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Rubim seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Gracie is trying to keep Rubim in close.
Rubim controls from within his opponent's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Rubim pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracie is keeping the position for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Gracie working a defensive guard here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. A swing and a miss from Rubim. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rubim throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease. Gracie steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rubim. Rubim throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Gracie stumbling backwards into the cage! Gracie bounces back off the cage towards Rubim, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Rubim lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Rubim celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Anderson Rubim!
