PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rohaldo Roguera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Vendt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roguera kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Meshuggag - Bleed. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rohaldo Roguera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Vendt!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vendt tries to close the distance and clinch but Roguera swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Roguera has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Vendt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Roguera tries to improve position but can't.
Vendt trying to control the action but Roguera is working from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Roguera's face as Vendt controls the position.

Vendt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Roguera keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Vendt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vendt connects with a nice short shot to Roguera's temple.
Roguera is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vendt lands a nice short elbow.

Vendt is nestled in close to Roguera, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Roguera is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Vendt pulls his head out easily.

Vendt postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Roguera to stand up.
David Vendt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vendt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Roguera pinned against the cage. Roguera gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Roguera circles away from the clinch attempt.

Vendt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Roguera swivels and escapes.

Roguera tries to keep at a distance but Vendt has taken the fight into the clinch.

Vendt gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Vendt wants to control from the top but Roguera keeps moving.

Roguera wants to sweep but no luck.

Roguera escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vendt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Roguera is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Vendt defends well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vendt decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Vendt shoots in and bounces Roguera off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Roguera looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Vendt advances position into side control!

Vendt stands up and beckons Roguera to his feet.

Vendt forces Roguera back against the cage and clinches.

Vendt gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Roguera is refusing to be controlled, as Vendt sits in half guard.
Roguera is looking to get back to full guard here but Vendt has managed to pass to side control instead.
Vendt looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vendt is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Roguera can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Vendt dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Vendt looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Roguera shoots and misses

and Vendt counters with a takedown into side control.
Roguera is trying to escape the position but Vendt is controlling the position.
Roguera tries to bench press Vendt off him but Vendt keeps the position.
Vendt is looking to take a break and control but Roguera is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Roguera tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Roguera could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Vendt scoring with punches and elbows.
Vendt lands a nice forearm strike.

Vendt wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Roguera, who protects the arm well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Roguera manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Vendt wants to get back to full guard.
Vendt is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Vendt is defending against the submission attempts here by Roguera.
Vendt is trying to control but can't.
Roguera prevents Vendt from standing back up.

Roguera is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Vendt doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Roguera.

Roguera is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Vendt scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Roguera sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

You can see the frustration on Roguera's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Vendt lands a shot to the head.

Oooh a big shot gets through from Vendt. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Roguera turns into Vendt and is now in his guard.

Vendt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Roguera gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Roguera postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Vendt is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Roguera, into his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Vendt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Roguera's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Vendt lands a glancing blow to the side of Roguera's head.

Vendt moves into the clinch.

Vendt pulls guard successfully.
Roguera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vendt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roguera drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Roguera as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Vendt screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Roguera! Nice submission victory there!
