PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patty Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Albert Einstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patterson's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Faint - Hospital. Einstein comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Angra - Mystery Machine kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Patty Patterson had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patty Patterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Albert Einstein!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Einstein shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Patterson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Einstein tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Einstein has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Patterson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Einstein trying to control the position but Patterson is working away.
Einstein works to advance to full mount. Patterson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Patterson is desperately trying to improve his position but Einstein has a good base and remains in mount.

Einstein is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Patterson is surviving well by controlling Einstein's body position as best he can.

Patterson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Einstein moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Patterson has worked his arm free - good work by Patterson!

Einstein looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Einstein is working for a submission of some sort.
Patterson tries to get to full guard but Einstein has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Einstein is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Einstein tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patterson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Einstein counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Einstein uses his free foot to push down on Patterson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Patterson.

Einstein lands a nice shot to the head.
Einstein has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Einstein misses with a takedown attempt

and Patterson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Einstein's guard.

Patterson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Einstein manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Patterson manages to get himself to full guard.

Patterson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Einstein's guard.

Patterson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Patterson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Einstein wants to sweep here but Patterson controlling him for the moment.
Einstein has control of Patterson's left arm, preventing Patterson from doing any damage.
Einstein manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Patterson manages to get himself to full guard.

Patterson wants to finish this one by submission but Einstein is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Patterson.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Einstein is in all sorts of trouble here.

Patterson takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Patterson is trying to stick to Einstein's back but Einstein is turning into Patterson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Patterson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Einstein.
Einstein stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Patterson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Einstein postures up in Patterson's guard and throws a big left but Patterson blocks it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Patterson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Einstein looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Patterson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Einstein is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Patterson is looking to take a break and control but Einstein is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Einstein is looking to regain half guard here but Patterson keeps moving and retains side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Patty Patterson will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Einstein drops back looking for a leg! Patterson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Patterson manages to kick Einstein off! Einstein jumps back into Patterson's guard.

Einstein throwing strikes but missing.

Patterson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Einstein doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Einstein manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Albert Einstein comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Einstein has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
