PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Carrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Assman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Carrey might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to When the man comes around - Johnny Cash. Jim Carrey has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Carrey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert Assman!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carrey shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Assman but Assman pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Assman lands a big shot that drops Carrey! Can he finish him?


Carrey is rocked!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Assman slips nicely into half guard.

Carrey looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Assman passes to side control.
Assman tries to advance to mount but can't.
Carrey tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Assman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Assman scoring with punches and elbows.

Oh Carrey is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Assman looks up at the clock and then as Carrey takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Assman smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Carrey is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Assman's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Carrey is breathing heavily.
Assman is taking a breather. Carrey says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Assman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carrey is just riding it out for now. Assman eventually gives up the hold.
Assman prevents Carrey from improving his position.
Carrey seems to have got his legs back now.

Assman passes to full mount!
Carrey is trying desperately to improve position.

Assman is working for a guillotine from mount but Carrey frees his head quite easily.
Assman wants to take his opponent's back but Carrey doesn't allow it.
Assman looking to control but Carrey is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Assman lands a big shot there that rocks Carrey but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Assman jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Carrey manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Assman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carrey knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Carrey is working to avoid the ground and pound but Assman connects with a decent elbow.

Carrey is not content to let Assman control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carrey sneaks back into half guard.
Carrey is pressing down on Assman's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Carrey keeping moving, preventing Assman from controlling successfully.
Carrey controls Assman momentarily but Assman frees himself.

Assman lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Carrey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Assman is one step ahead there.
Assman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Carrey is keeping the position for now.

Carrey keeping moving, preventing Assman from controlling successfully.
Assman is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Assman might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Carrey kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Carrey is looking for a triangle but Assman pushes his legs off easily.

Assman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Assman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Assman throws a hook to the side of Carrey's head but Carrey sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Carrey looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Assman is fending him off so far but Carrey persists. Nope, Assman circles away and we're back to standing.
Carrey closes this distance looking for a takedown but Assman circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Carrey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Assman throws a series of punches but Carrey avoids them all with ease.
Jim Carrey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Assman fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carrey manages to avoid it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Carrey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Assman's waist but Assman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carrey off to one side.
Assman pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Assman waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Carrey.

Assman sizes up Carrey with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Carrey fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Carrey misses with a takedown attempt - Assman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Carrey fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Assman walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Carrey checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Assman dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Assman throws a big shot that misses.
No luck for Carrey with that takedown attempt.
Assman tries a low kick but Carrey avoids it.
Assman will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Assman looks to land a left hand but Carrey moved out of range nicely.

Carrey gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Assman stopping the sweep attempt from Carrey.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carrey is trying to control the position but Assman postures up.
Assman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Assman passes Carrey's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Carrey is defending against the submission attempts here by Assman.

Assman is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Carrey has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Assman is working away from the top position though.

Carrey working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Assman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Assman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Carrey manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Robert Assman has got the better of the ground game so far.

Carrey is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Assman has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Assman is working to get back to half guard.
Carrey seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Assman is holding on tight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carrey is working hard here to advance position.

Carrey has hold of Assman's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Assman manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Carrey with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Carrey wants to stand but Carrey is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

Carrey working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Assman turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Carrey off and cradles Assman's limp body as Carrey celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Jim Carrey!
