PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cyril Kivel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimbo Slice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jimbo Slice told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cyril Kivel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimbo Slice!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kivel finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Slice drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kivel wants to get back to his feet but Slice drags him back down.
You can see the frustration on Kivel's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Slice misses with the ground and pound.
Kivel is trying to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slice postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Kivel is not content to let Slice control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kivel is looking to regain half guard here but Slice keeps moving and retains side control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kivel is looking to clinch.
Kivel wants to clinch.
Kivel scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Jimbo Slice has been cut.

Slice shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Slice looking for a guillotine from mount but Kivel is having none of it.
Slice wants to control the pace but Kivel is squirming around nicely.
Slice throws some wild stikes that Kivel manages to avoid easily.
Slice can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kivel is looking to escape.
Slice fails to move to back control.

Kivel tries to hold on but Slice postures up.
Slice looking to control and managing it successfully.
Kivel wants to control but Slice is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Slice jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Kivel is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Kivel and Slice has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Slice looks gassed!
Kivel is looking to reverse the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kivel can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kivel stalks Slice and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Slice's face. Slice staggers backwards, shaken.
Kivel throws a series of punches but Slice moves out of range.
Slice tries for a takedown but Kivel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kivel misses with a series of wild punches.
Kivel lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Slice.
Kivel doesn't manage to clinch there - Slice circles away.
Kivel throws a series of punches but Slice moves out of range.
Kivel throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kivel tries to clinch but Slice is having none of it.
Slice is breathing heavily.
Kivel closes the distance and lands a one-two.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A decent looking body kick lands there for Slice.
A left and a right from Kivel both land. Nice combination.
Kivel wants to clinch.

Kivel looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Slice throws a combination that misses

and Kivel counters by clinching up.
Kivel is pressed up against the cage. Slice has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kivel down to the mat. Kivel avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Cyril Kivel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimbo Slice.

Kivel gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Kivel is trying to control. Slice wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Slice has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kivel is working away from the top position though.

Kivel wants to pass the guard but Slice is defending well.

Kivel seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Kivel is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Slice is trying to maintain the position but Kivel is very close to passing his half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A chopping leg kick lands by Kivel.
Kivel closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Kivel throws a right and a left that Slice avoids nicely.
Cyril Kivel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kivel tries to clinch but Slice is having none of it.

Slice shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kivel manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Slice decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kivel, up you get!
Kivel dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kivel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Slice swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Slice dives in and grabs Kivel's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kivel pushes down on Slice's head and hops out.
Kivel connects with a solid leg kick.

Slice shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kivel's guard.
Slice not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Slice passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kivel is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Slice working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
It looks like Slice is going to stand back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Kivel throws a right and a left that Slice avoids nicely.
Cyril Kivel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kivel wants to clinch up but Slice keeps it at a distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Slice.
Slice is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kivel sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kivel wants to clinch up but Slice keeps it at a distance.
Kivel throws a right hand that Slice ducks under and follows up with a left that Slice also avoids with ease.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slice takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Slice swats away the attempt to clinch by Kivel.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Slice fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kivel closes the distance and clinches.

Kivel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kivel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Slice swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kivel lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Slice shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Slice was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Slice wants to control the pace but Kivel is squirming around nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kivel manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Kivel, under a barage of strikes from Slice.
Slice is just content to waste time from the top position. Kivel takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Kivel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Slice's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kivel looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Kivel stands up and waves to Slice to follow him.
Kivel shoots and misses

and Slice counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kivel won't be happy with that.
Slice prevents Kivel from escaping the position.
Kivel tries to bench press Slice off him but Slice keeps the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slice throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Slice wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kivel keeps working.
Kivel regains half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jimbo Slice.
I think Slice has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
