The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davidson takes the fight into the clinch. Davidson jumps into guard, dragging Gilpin to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gilpin stands up over Davidson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Gilpin wants to control from the top but Davidson keeps moving. Davidson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Davidson trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Davidson working a defensive guard here.
Davidson seems keen to control Gilpin's posture. Gilpin stopping the sweep attempt from Davidson. Davidson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gilpin slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Davidson tries for a takedown but Gilpin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Gilpin tries to clinch and Davidson counters with an outside leg kick.
Gilpin throws a leg kick that is checked and Davidson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Davidson connects with a knee to the head.
It looks like Brandon Gilpin has been cut. Gilpin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Davidson decides to pull guard. Gilpin working some strikes from top position. Davidson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gilpin wants to get up but he can't break Davidson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Gilpin advances position into side control! That's two minutes gone in the round. Davidson wants to control but Gilpin postures up. Gilpin cracks Davidson with a big right hand but Davidson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Gilpin is looking to take a break and control but Davidson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gilpin working the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Davidson is not content to let Gilpin control the position. Gilpin controlling the position from side mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gilpin lands a few punches from side control. Davidson struggling a bit here. Gilpin tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Davidson is looking for a sweep. Gilpin tries to move into full mount but can't pass Davidson's legs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Davidson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gilpin off and has taken his back! Gilpin looks gassed! Davidson thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent. Davidson tries to get the hooks in deep but Gilpin pushed the leg off. Davidson fails with a takedown attempt. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Davidson. Gilpin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Davidson sprawls well. Davidson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gilpin gets slowly back to his feet. Gilpin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Davidson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Gilpin fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Dave Davidson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brandon Gilpin. Gilpin is breathing heavily. Gilpin is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Davidson is defending well for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Davidson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Davidson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gilpin avoids it really well and circles away. Gilpin clinches but Davidson breaks the clinch and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nice sprawl there from Davidson as Gilpin shoots in. Davidson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Gilpin has a takedown stuffed. No luck for Davidson with that takedown attempt. Davidson tries a head kick but it misses.
Gilpin shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Davidson as he avoids it easily. Davidson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Gilpin moves into the clinch. Davidson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gilpin throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Davidson on the side of the head. Davidson fails with the takedown. Davidson shoots for a takedown but Gilpin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Gilpin tries to clinch but Davidson is having none of it. Dave Davidson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Davidson dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Gilpin. That did some damage! Davidson fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Gilpin misses with a takedown attempt and Davidson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Davidson manages to break the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gilpin fails with a takedown attempt. Davidson shoots in for a takedown but Gilpin shows good takedown defense. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Dave Davidson will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Brandon Gilpin's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

He can't get it on this occasion though. Gilpin gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Davidson.

Davidson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Davidson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gilpin tries to avoid it but Davidson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gilpin to the ground. Gilpin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Gilpin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Davidson pinned against the cage. Davidson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Davidson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Davidson decides to pull guard. Gilpin trying to control but Davidson is working from the bottom. Davidson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Gilpin trying to control the position from guard on top but Davidson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gilpin wants to stand and escape but instead Davidson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Davidson throws a strike but Gilpin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Davidson pushes Gilpin off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Gilpin throws a leg kick and Davidson counters with a nice body shot. Gilpin takes one on the button.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Davidson moves into range and clinches up with Gilpin. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Davidson pulls Gilpin into guard.
Gilpin wants to control from the top but Davidson keeps moving. Davidson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Gilpin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Davidson looking to control.
Gilpin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
