The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gambatesa closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Valuev tries to kick Gambatesa off but Gambatesa keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gambatesa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Valuev defends it well.

Gambatesa is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Valuev is surviving well by controlling Gambatesa's body position as best he can.
Gambatesa thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Gambatesa avoids the attempt from Valuev to control.
Gambatesa is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Valuev is in real trouble.

Gambatesa is looking to control Valuev but Valuev is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Valuev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gambatesa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gambatesa has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Valuev's body.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gambatesa is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Valuev won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Gambatesa off his unconscious opponent!
