PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Juan Carro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randolph Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duke has chosen Pink Floyd - Money as his entrance music. Randolph Duke is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Carro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randolph Duke!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Lou da Vinci and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carro darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Carro uses his free foot to push down on Duke's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Duke.
Carro is trying to control here but Duke has managed to regain half guard.
Carro is pressing down on Duke's thigh, looking to free his foot. Duke is holding on for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duke is trying to get back to full guard.

Duke looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Carro is trying to control the action in half guard but Duke is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Carro wants to pass the guard but Duke is defending well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carro wants to take a breather but Duke is having none of it.

Duke is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carro pulls his head out easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Duke shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carro but Carro pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Duke tries for a takedown but Carro circles away easily
and Carro counters with a three punch combo that has Duke backing up. Duke nods at Carro to acknowledge the strikes.

Duke moves out of range of the body kick.

Duke drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Carro looking for a guillotine here but Duke defends easily.

Duke stands up from Carro's guard - Duke perhaps looking for a knockout.
Duke checks a leg kick.

Carro misses with a looping right.
Carro tries a head kick but it misses.
Duke shoots and misses
and Carro counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Juan Carro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randolph Duke.
Duke slips a jab and a cross from Carro.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Duke looks to clinch
and Duke takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Carro will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Duke shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carro napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Duke is trying to get an arm triangle but Carro is defending well.

Duke tries for a kimura but Carro is defending well.

Duke decides to stand up, so the ref orders Carro to his feet.
Juan Carro is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Carro clinches up with Duke and pushes him back against the cage.
Carro is looking to break free of the clinch but Duke has double underhooks.
Duke has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Carro avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Duke jumps guard but Carro stands there with Duke around his waist. Duke gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Duke tries for a takedown. No joy.
Juan Carro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randolph Duke.
Carro goes for a takedown in the clinch but Duke prevents it.
Carro blocks the elbow strike.
Carro tries to break the clinch but Duke is controlling the position.
Duke goes for a takedown attempt but Carro pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Duke staying out of range there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Duke tries to clinch up
and Carro connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Carro bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Duke's head.

and Duke counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Duke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Duke is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Carro has managed to free his arm - good work.
Carro gets full guard.

Duke drops back, looking for a kneebar! Carro looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Carro looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Carro!
Carro postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Carro advances nicely into full mount.
Carro working Duke over with strikes here.
Carro trying to control but Duke is having none of it.
Carro throws a strike there. Duke manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randolph Duke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Carro lands a nice shot to the body.
Duke tries for a takedown but Carro circles away easily

and Carro counters with a single leg into guard. Duke didn't expect that.
Carro postures up in Duke's guard and throws a big left but Duke blocks it.

Duke working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carro doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carro manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Carro trying to control the position from guard on top but Duke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carro missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Duke keeping full guard, as Carro tries to pass.

Carro postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Duke is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Carro, into his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Duke drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Carro dives on top into guard.
Carro throws and elbow that misses. Duke uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Carro's guard. Nice move by Duke!
Duke trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carro has a closed guard, preventing Duke from standing up.
Carro not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Duke would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Duke works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Duke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Duke takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Duke is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Duke is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carro defends it well.
Duke stops Carro from getting back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Duke is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Duke is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Carro still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Carro has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Carro has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
