Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jing Woo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ernst Barkmann! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Barkmann. No joy for Woo on that attempt. Barkmann connects with a body shot. Barkmann dips down and scores with a jab to the body. A decent looking cross lands there for Barkmann. Woo shoots in and bounces Barkmann off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Woo gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Barkmann scores with the left hand. Woo knows he should have avoided that one. Barkmann lands a jab. Woo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Ernst Barkmann seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Woo takes one to the side of the head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Barkmann. Woo does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Woo defending well as Barkmann loads up on a big left hand. Barkmann connects with a looping right hand.
Barkmann connects with a body shot. Barkmann thows a body shot but no joy. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Barkmann!
Woo tries for a takedown but Barkmann sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jing Woo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Barkmann misses with a hook. Barkmann scores with a jab. Woo darts in and clinches Barkmann up against the cage. Barkmann leaning against his opponent.
Barkmann escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Barkmann scores with a jab. Woo acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Barkmann scores with a punch to the head. Good standup being displayed there by Barkmann as he connects with a hook. A right-left combo lands from Barkmann. Barkmann lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Woo slips under a jab from Barkmann. Barkmann rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Woo moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Woo staying out of range there. Barkmann is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Woo had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Barkmann throws a series of punches but Woo moves out of range. Some wild striking there from Barkmann.
No joy there for Barkmann, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Barkmann slaps away a takedown attempt from Woo, before circling back to the center of the mat. Ernst Barkmann is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Woo walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. The fighters circle momentarily. Barkmann darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Woo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Barkmann defends it nicely. Woo tries to clinch but Barkmann is having none of it. Barkmann ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Woo moves away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Woo moves away from the strike by Barkmann. Woo closes the distance and clinches. The referee is keeping an eye on Barkmann - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Barkmann scores with a shoulder strike. Barkmann lands a shot to the body. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Barkmann breaks the clinch.
A jab from Barkmann does it's job there. Barkmann misses with a few strikes there.
Barkmann works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Barkmann lands with a shot to the body. Woo throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Nice jab there from Barkmann. Barkmann connects with a jab. Woo slips under a jab. Woo tries to close the distance and clinch but Barkmann swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barkmann with a hook. Barkmann scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Woo takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Barkmann works Woo's body with a nice hook. Barkmann shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Woo defends it nicely. Barkmann scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Woo doesn't seem bothered though. Woo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barkmann swivels and escapes. Barkmann throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Woo shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Woo has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Barkmann fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Woo on the side of the head. Barkmann throws a good cross that connects.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Barkmann throws a series of punches but Woo avoids them all with ease. Woo takes one on the button. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ernst Barkmann dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Woo slips under a jab from Barkmann. Barkmann cracks Woo with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Woo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barkmann pinned against the cage. Barkmann gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Woo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Barkmann to score with a decent uppercut. Jing Woo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Barkmann ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Barkmann misses with a wild body shot. Woo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Barkmann sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. A lazy left from Barkmann finds it's target. Barkmann throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
so Woo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Woo advances to half guard. Barkmann controlling the position for now. Barkmann tries to kick Woo off in order to stand up. Woo Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barkmann is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Barkmann tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Woo presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Barkmann is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Woo is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Barkmann has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Barkmann! Barkmann is looking to stand up but Woo won't let him. Woo working a defensive guard here.
Barkmann has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Woo is proving hard to escape from.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barkmann got a little sloppy there for a moment and Woo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barkmann has managed to get both his arms back between Woo's legs - danger averted. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Barkmann wants to stand but Woo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Barkmann throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Barkmann throws a series of punches but Woo avoids them all with ease. Woo fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jing Woo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Barkmann sizes up Woo with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. A shot to de liver by Barkmann. Beautiful body shot.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Woo takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Barkmann throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Barkmann has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Barkmann throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Woo takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Barkmann lands with a right hand. Jab from Barkmann. Barkmann lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Barkmann uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Woo has time to react. Woo closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Barkmann connects with a nice looking jab.
Ernst Barkmann seems to be getting the better of the standup. Barkmann ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Woo moves away. Barkmann lands a body shot.
Woo looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Barkmann lands an overhand right. Barkmann lands with a shot to the body. Barkmann closes the distance and lands a one-two. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ernst Barkmann showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Jab, jab by Barkmann - just one landing. Barkmann swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Woo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Woo. Barkmann tries to land a sweep but no joy. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Barkmann manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Barkmann is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! Barkmann misses with a jab, cross combination.
Woo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Barkmann tries to get to full guard but Woo has control of the leg. Woo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barkmann gets full guard. Barkmann is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Ernst Barkmann is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Woo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barkmann pulls Woo in close to prevent any damage. Woo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Woo being controlled here momentarily.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jing Woo. I think Barkmann has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
