PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Francesco Luongo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Khao Dteh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Luongo's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Alexisonfire - The Northern. Khao Dteh will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Francesco Luongo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Khao Dteh!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Jonathan Paton and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luongo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Dteh.
A chopping leg kick lands by Dteh.
Dteh throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Dteh stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dteh wants it to stay on the feet.
A decent looking cross lands there for Luongo.
Luongo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dteh swivels and escapes.
Luongo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dteh as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Francesco Luongo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Luongo shoots in for a double leg but Dteh sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Luongo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dteh circles away.
Dteh scores with a head kick.

Luongo drives through with a takedown into guard.
Luongo slips nicely into half guard.

Dteh is trying to stand.

Luongo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dteh defends it well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Luongo tries to pass to full mount but Dteh defends it.
Luongo takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Luongo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Dteh sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Luongo seems to be working for a kimura but Dteh defends the submission attempt.
Dteh pushes Luongo off looking to stand but Luongo dives back in and keeps control.
Luongo trying to control the action but Dteh is working from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Luongo in particular looking to stall.

Luongo tries to pass to full mount but Dteh defends it.
Luongo uses his free foot to push down on Dteh's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dteh.
Dteh is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Luongo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dteh is looking to escape.
Luongo is trying to take his opponent's back.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dteh can do anything to dispel that myth.

Luongo has hold of Dteh's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Dteh manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dteh really wants to buck Luongo off and get back to his feet.

Luongo is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Dteh is surviving well by controlling Luongo's body position as best he can.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Luongo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Luongo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dteh knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Dteh wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Luongo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Luongo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Dteh seems a little lost for a moment, as Luongo dominates the positioning.
Luongo wants to control but Dteh is keeping him busy.

Dteh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Luongo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dteh is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Luongo is controlling him well.

Dteh is pushing Luongo's head away, looking to escape. Luongo manages to hold on to the position though.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Dteh gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Dteh wants to stand and escape but Luongo is having none of it.

Luongo wants to control from the top but Dteh keeps moving.
Luongo works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Dteh pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Both fighters circling a little - Dteh finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Francesco Luongo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dteh gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Luongo to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Luongo is looking for a kimura but Dteh is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Luongo to get the leverage.
Luongo is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Luongo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dteh is just riding it out for now. Luongo eventually gives up the hold.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
Dteh looks like he's trying to stand up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dteh throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Luongo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Luongo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Luongo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
