PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Sparrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robin Sandstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sandstrom has chosen Dj Tatanka @ Qlimax 2006 as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Sparrow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robin Sandstrom!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sparrow misses with a double jab.
Sparrow rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sandstrom moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sparrow throws a series of punches but Sandstrom moves out of range.

Sparrow drops Sandstrom with a beautiful combination! Sandstrom stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Sparrow is looking for the KO!


It looks like Robin Sandstrom has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sparrow throws a right hand that Sandstrom ducks under and follows up with a left that Sandstrom also avoids with ease.
No joy there for Sparrow, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Sandstrom drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sparrow wants to stand and escape but Sandstrom is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sandstrom stands and throws Sparrow's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sandstrom should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Sparrow is breathing heavily.

Sandstrom decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Sandstrom moves into the clinch successfully.
Sandstrom lands a left hand that snaps the head of Sparrow backwards.

Sandstrom has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sparrow uses from the top position.
Sparrow thows a big elbow that misses.
Sandstrom bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sparrow's guard.

Sandstrom stays in close to Sparrow's body and controls the position.
Sandstrom slips nicely into half guard.

Sandstrom wants to work for an arm triangle but Sparrow is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Sandstrom decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Sandstrom drives through and clinches with Sparrow against the cage.
Sandstrom is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sparrow pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sparrow wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Sandstrom fails to pull the fight into his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sandstrom lands a body punch in the clinch.
Sparrow wants to stall.
Sparrow tries to break free but Sandstrom pushes him back against the cage.

Sandstrom gets control of Sparrow's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sandstrom will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sparrow postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sandstrom has his foot on Sparrow's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sparrow works his way back into a safe position though.
Sparrow has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sandstrom wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sparrow content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Sparrow lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Sparrow throws a strike but Sandstrom rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Sparrow wants to get back to his feet but Sandstrom is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sandstrom postures up in Sparrow's guard and throws a big left but Sparrow blocks it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sparrow displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sandstrom.
Jack Sparrow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robin Sandstrom.
Sandstrom dodges the punch combination from Sparrow.

Sandstrom closes the distance and clinches.
Sandstrom has Sparrow pressed against the cage, preventing Sparrow from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
The referee is keeping an eye on Sandstrom - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Sparrow working aggressively here.
Still in the clinch, Sandstrom scores with a nice short uppercut.

Sandstrom gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sparrow wants to get back to his feet but Sandstrom is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sandstrom controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jack Sparrow will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Robin Sandstrom's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sparrow throws a series of punches but Sandstrom moves out of range.
Sandstrom will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sandstrom slips a jab and a cross from Sparrow.
Jack Sparrow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sparrow slaps away a takedown attempt from Sandstrom, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Sparrow throws a right hand that Sandstrom ducks under and follows up with a left that Sandstrom also avoids with ease.
Sparrow misses with the combination.

Sandstrom takes the fight into the clinch.
Sandstrom makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Sparrow takes a shot to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sandstrom breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sparrow throws a series of punches but Sandstrom avoids them all with ease.

Sandstrom drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sparrow wants to stand and escape but Sandstrom is having none of it.
Sandstrom wants to pass the guard but Sparrow is keeping the position.
Sparrow wants to stand up but Sandstrom is controlling him.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Sandstrom has eaten all the pies!
Sandstrom looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Sandstrom won't allow Sparrow to get back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sparrow trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Sparrow keeping moving, preventing Sandstrom from controlling successfully.
Sparrow wants to stand up but Sandstrom is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sparrow throws a nice looking combination but Sandstrom bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Sandstrom darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sandstrom is trying to control the action in half guard but Sparrow is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Sandstrom stands up from half guard.
Sandstrom lands a high kick!

Sandstrom drives through and clinches with Sparrow against the cage.

Sandstrom turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sandstrom manages to end up in side control.

Sandstrom is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sparrow will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Sparrow tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Sparrow controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Sparrow covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Sandstrom is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robin Sandstrom showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Sparrow's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Sandstrom avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sparrow swinging wildly here.
Sandstrom lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Sparrow takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Sandstrom looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Sandstrom seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Jack Sparrow is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Sparrow throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sandstrom.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sandstrom is controlling the pace.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sparrow pushes Sandstrom off and gets back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Robin Sandstrom comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sandstrom has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
