Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Laidlaw is defended easily by Figueira.
Laidlaw takes a kick to the side of the head.
Laidlaw shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Laidlaw prevents Figueira from getting the reversal.
Laidlaw avoids the attempt from Figueira to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Figueira can't escape the position.
Laidlaw trying to control but Figueira is having none of it.

Figueira tries to control Laidlaw's body but Laidlaw pushes him off. Figueira squirms to his side and now Laidlaw has his back!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Laidlaw is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Figueira tries to roll but Laidlaw sticks to his back.

Figueira is having to fend off submission attempts from Laidlaw, who is looking to sink in the choke. Laidlaw doesn't have the hooks in though and Figueira manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Figueira shoots in for a double leg but Laidlaw sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Figueira feints and then cracks Laidlaw's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Laidlaw down.
Laidlaw moves in looking to clinch but Figueira pushes him off.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Figueira bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Laidlaw's guard.

Laidlaw shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Figueira pinned against the cage. Figueira gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Figueira lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Figueira shoots in looking for a takedown. Laidlaw tries to sprawl out of it but Figueira keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Laidlaw manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
