Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pasqualito Cortes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gio Baresi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gio Baresi! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Baresi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cortes sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Baresi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Baresi scoring with strikes to the body and head. Baresi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Baresi slips a nice elbow through Cortes's hands, connecting with Cortes's forehead. Baresi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Cortes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Baresi scores with a couple of nice shots. Baresi lands strikes from half guard. Cortes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Baresi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cortes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Baresi is thwarting Cortes's attempts to control the position. Cortes avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Baresi. Cortes moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Cortes wants to stand but Baresi is controlling the position. Baresi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baresi with a flurry of punches that miss. Baresi throws a strike but Cortes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Cortes wants to stand but Baresi is controlling his posture from full guard. Cortes stands and throws Baresi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Cortes trying to control the action but Baresi is working from the bottom. Baresi prevents Cortes from improving position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cortes is looking to take a break and control but Baresi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cortes is really struggling to control Baresi but he's trying to hold on to the position. Cortes tries to stand but Baresi is controlling his head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Baresi avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Cortes.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Baresi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Baresi wants to stand up but Cortes is controlling him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cortes gets caught flat footed, as Baresi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Cortes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Baresi thows a big elbow that misses. Baresi lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Baresi missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Cortes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Baresi is staying active underneath Cortes, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cortes is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Baresi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Baresi wants to get back to his feet.
Cortes tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Baresi.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Baresi won't allow Cortes to pass to mount. Baresi is not content to let Cortes control the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cortes shoots and misses and Baresi counters with a single leg into guard. Cortes didn't expect that. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Baresi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Baresi is working Cortes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Cortes is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Cortes controlling from mount. Cortes punching from mount but Baresi doing a good job of avoiding damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gio Baresi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Baresi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cortes but Cortes pushes him off and we're back to square one. Cortes drives through and clinches with Baresi against the cage.

Cortes closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cortes lands in his opponent's guard. Baresi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cortes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Baresi wants to stand but Cortes is controlling the position. Baresi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Cortes trying to control but Baresi is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cortes tries to stand but Baresi is controlling from the bottom. Baresi wants to get back to his feet but Cortes passes into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Cortes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Cortes is trying to control the action in half guard but Baresi is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Gio Baresi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Baresi can do anything to dispel that myth.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Baresi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cortes's guard. Baresi postures up and lands a big shot to Cortes's brow. Baresi won't allow Cortes to get back to his feet. Baresi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Baresi prevents Cortes from getting back to his feet. Baresi landing with the ground and pound.

Baresi scoring with some ground and pound. Baresi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Baresi stopping the sweep attempt from Cortes. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Baresi landing some decent shots from guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Gio Baresi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Baresi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
