PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Justin Roza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dave Savage told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Roza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Savage!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Steve Montenegro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Dave Savage has been cut.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Savage is trying to trip Roza. He has hold of a leg but Roza is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Savage persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Roza wants to get back to his feet but Savage passes into half guard.
Roza is looking to improve his position.

Savage is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Savage trying to control the action but Roza is working from the bottom.
Savage throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roza is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roza wants to control but Savage is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Savage throwing shots but Roza is blocking nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Roza lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Savage circles away quickly and effectively.
Roza scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


Savage is rocked!
Roza throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Savage is still on wobbly legs! Can Roza finish him?
Roza throws a right and a left that both miss.
Roza tries to bum rush Savage with a series of wild strikes but Savage uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Roza throws a right and a left that Savage avoids nicely.
Roza misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Savage dodges the punch combination from Roza.
Savage slips a jab and a cross from Roza.
Roza misses with a straight right.
Roza throws a shot from downtown. Savage moves away and avoids it.

Roza throws an overhand right that lands on Savage's shoulder, as Savage tries to avoid the shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Roza throws the left hand but Savage avoids the punch easily.
Savage defending well as Roza loads up on a big left hand.
Roza throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Roza throws a shot from downtown. Savage moves away and avoids it.
Savage seems to have recovered his senses.

Savage closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Savage lands in his opponent's guard.
Roza is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Savage passes Roza's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Savage missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Roza wants to get back to full guard.
Savage wants to pass to mount but Roza is defending the position.
Savage wants to take a breather but Roza is having none of it.

Savage is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Roza throws a right hand that Savage ducks under and follows up with a left that Savage also avoids with ease.
Horrible takedown by Savage or perhaps it was just good defense by Roza which made him look bad.
A nice combination there by Roza.
Savage tries to clinch there but Roza circles away.
Roza drops Savage with a huge uppercut! Savage drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Roza is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Justin Roza!
