Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Assar Spjut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitch Babaloli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Assar Spjut! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mitch Babaloli! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Spjut looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Spjut misses with a series of wild punches.
Babaloli shoots in and drives through. Spjut sprawls well. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Babaloli is defended easily by Spjut. Spjut is looking to clinch but Babaloli is avoiding it.
Spjut throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Babaloli avoids the body shot from Spjut.
Spjut misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Babaloli.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Spjut throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Babaloli. Spjut is looking to clinch. Spjut tries for a takedown but Babaloli circles away easily and Babaloli decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Spjut's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Spjut wants to get back to his feet but Babaloli is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Babaloli throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Spjut works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Spjut is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Babaloli with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Spjut knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Babaloli on the ground. Babaloli with a flurry of punches that miss. Babaloli advances position into side control! Babaloli passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Spjut! Babaloli putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Babaloli pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Babaloli trying to control but he's not successful this time. Babaloli lands a nice shot to the head. Babaloli postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Spjut looks a forlorn figure.
Spjut is trying to stand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Babaloli landing strikes from the mount and Spjut is in trouble! Spjut is squirming around, avoiding Babaloli's attempts to control the action. Spjut wants to use the ropes to get back to his feet here.
Spjut is breathing heavily. Babaloli landing shots from mount. Babaloli looking to finish Spjut with some ground and pound. This is bad for Spjut! Babaloli is in the full mount, landing strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Babaloli lands a big shot there that rocks Spjut but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Spjut is rocked! A big strike lands for Babaloli! That's really hurt Spjut and he's turned his back - Babaloli keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Babaloli jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
