Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shoju Bayushi! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryuu Matsumoto! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matsumoto drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Matsumoto controls from within his opponent's guard. Matsumoto's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Matsumoto passes easily into side control. Nice work. Bayushi takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Matsumoto lands an elbow. Bayushi is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Matsumoto scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Matsumoto seems to be working for a kimura but Bayushi defends the submission attempt. Bayushi trying to hold on to Matsumoto's head to control him but Matsumoto postures up.
Matsumoto is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bayushi defends it well. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Matsumoto connects with a nice short shot to Bayushi's temple. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matsumoto passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bayushi! Bayushi really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Matsumoto with good strikes from the mount here! Bayushi takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Bayushi is in all sorts of trouble here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Matsumoto raining down shots from the mount! Matsumoto putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Bayushi in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Matsumoto working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Bayushi is rocked! Matsumoto working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Bayushi turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Matsumoto off and cradles Bayushi's limp body as Matsumoto celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Ryuu Matsumoto! Ryuu Matsumoto is the new featherweight champion!
