3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Severn! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howser throws a right hand that Severn ducks under and follows up with a left that Severn also avoids with ease. Howser bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
It looks like Dan Severn has been cut. Severn tries to clinch but Howser moves out of range. Severn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Howser manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Severn tries to free his leg and advance position but Howser is retaining full guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Severn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Severn lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Howser is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Severn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Severn wants to control from the top but Howser keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Severn is pushing down on Howser's leg trying to pass to half guard. Howser is fighting to maintain full guard but Severn has managed to sneak the leg through. Severn is looking for a kimura but Howser is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Severn to get the leverage. Severn trying to control the action but Howser is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Severn moves into full mount! Howser won't be happy about that! Severn punching from mount but Howser doing a good job of avoiding damage. Howser slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Howser keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Severn looks to land a strike but Howser avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Severn in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Howser is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Severn looking to sit in guard and control but Howser gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Severn manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Severn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Howser circles away. Huell Howser has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Severn. Severn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Huell Howser seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Howser swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Howser looking to control but Severn is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Severn is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Severn tries to lock up and control but Howser gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Howser takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Severn bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Howser's half guard. Severn is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howser bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Severn's guard. Severn will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Severn. Huell Howser has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Severn. Howser misses with a takedown and Severn counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Howser wants to get back to full guard. Howser makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Howser. Severn trying to control the position from guard on top but Howser is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Howser looking for a sweep. Not yet Howser, not yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Severn is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Severn wants to pass the guard but Howser is keeping the position. Severn drops back, looking for a kneebar! Howser looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Howser looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Howser! Severn is looking for a sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Howser trying to control the action but Severn is working from the bottom. Howser grinds an elbow into Severn's temple. Severn struggling a bit here.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Dan Severn. I think Severn has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
