PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ong Bak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson has chosen Scream - Avenged Sevenfold as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ong Bak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bak throws a half hearted mid kick.
Bak does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Bak misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bak thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Johnson if he has to take too many more of those.

Johnson feints and as Bak raises his hands in defense, Johnson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Johnson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Bak trying to control the position.
Bak is looking to sweep but instead, Johnson has passed into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson prevents Bak from improving his position.
Johnson slows the pace down in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bak wants to sweep but Johnson has passed to side control!
Bak looking for a sweep but Johnson has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Johnson manages to capitalize on a mistake by Bak to take his back!

Bak tries to roll but Johnson sticks to his back.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bak wants to control his opponent's hands but Johnson gets his hands free.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Johnson controlling the position well here. Bak rolled but Johnson kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Johnson keeps control of the position as Bak tries to break free.
Bak is breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Johnson controlling the positon.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Johnson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bak fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ong Bak is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bak's guard.
Bak working a defensive guard but Johnson passes into half guard.
Bak trying to get back to full guard but Johnson takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Bak tries to hold on but Johnson pushes him away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bak tries to improve his position but instead Johnson has taken his back!
Johnson is hanging on to Bak's back as he tries to escape.
Johnson is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Johnson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Bak trying to control the hands but Johnson breaks the grip.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Johnson really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Bak.

Despite being in the dominant position, John Johnson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bak gets caught flat footed, as Johnson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Johnson is stalling in the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Bak trying to get back to full guard but Johnson takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bak reaches up to try and control the position but Johnson seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Bak rolls and tries to escape and now Johnson has his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson gets his hands free as Bak looks to control.
Johnson keeps control of the position easily here as Bak tries to buck him off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bak tries to break free.
Johnson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Despite being in the dominant position, John Johnson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Johnson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Johnson showed some decent athleticism there.
Still in half guard, Johnson seems content to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bak trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Johnson controlling from mount.
Ong Bak has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Johnson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bak is trying to escape the mount but Johnson keeps good control and instead manages to take Bak's back.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Johnson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
