PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gray Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caidal Cain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter's entrance music is Dream Theater - Pull Me Under. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 1, fighting out of London, Gray Hunter!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Caidal Cain!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, William Gold and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cain shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hunter sprawls well. Hunter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cain gets slowly back to his feet.
Cain fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Cain scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Hunter works his way to full guard. Good work.
Hunter is looking to stand up but Cain isn't so interested in that idea.
Hunter is trying to control the position but Cain postures up.
Hunter pulls Cain in close to his closed guard and prevents Cain from doing any damage or advancing position.

Hunter is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cain is aware though and is defending well.
Hunter looking for a sweep. Not yet Hunter, not yet.
Hunter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cain fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gray Hunter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Caidal Cain.
Cain steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hunter.
Cain moves out of range of the strikes.
Hunter leaves Cain with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Cain shoots in but no luck this time.
Caidal Cain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hunter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cain.
Cain keeps the fight on the outside.
Left hook, right uppercut from Cain.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hunter misses with a few strikes there.
Hunter doesn't manage to clinch there - Cain circles away.
Cain tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cain looks for a takedown but Hunter sprawls well.
Cain shoots in but Hunter avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Cain bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hunter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hunter swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Cain counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hunter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hunter is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cain looking to pass the guard.
Cain is pushing down on Hunter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hunter is fighting to maintain full guard but Cain has managed to sneak the leg through.
Cain works his way into side control.
Hunter gets back to half guard.
Hunter wants to improve his position but Cain is controlling well.
Cain is looking to advance position but Hunter won't allow it.

Cain is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hunter sees it coming and defends easily.
Cain looks gassed!
Cain prevents Hunter from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cain is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hunter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cain.
Hunter pushes Cain off looking to stand but Cain dives back in and keeps control.

Hunter looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Hunter is looking for a sweep. Cain is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hunter showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Cain.
Cain shoots in for a takedown but Hunter shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Hunter tries for a takedown but Cain circles away easily
and Cain counters with a one-two to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caidal Cain dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Cain gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Hunter counters with a stiff right hand.
Gray Hunter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hunter rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cain moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cain fails with the takedown
and Hunter counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Hunter swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cain counters with a two punch combo.
Hunter just misses with a punch to the body.
Cain is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hunter.


It looks like Caidal Cain has been cut.
Cain looks to land a combination. Hunter sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Hunter misses with a hook.
Good standup being displayed there by Hunter as he connects with a hook.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cain misses with a takedown
and Hunter counters with a series of strikes. Cain will be more careful next time no doubt.

Hunter circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cain shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hunter defends it nicely.
Cain tries to bum rush Hunter with a series of wild strikes but Hunter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hunter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Cain takes one to the side of the head.

and Hunter decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cain's guard.

Hunter gets to his feet - Cain follows without any prompting.

Hunter shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cain is trying to defend but Hunter finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hunter works his foot free and advances to mount.
Cain is trying to escape the mount.

Hunter looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cain tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Hunter working for a submission but Cain is keeping him at bay.
Hunter tries to control but Cain wriggling away.

Hunter goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Cain is on top in guard.
Hunter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cain advances to half guard.
Cain moves nicely into side control.
Hunter is looking for a sweep.
Cain tries to advance to mount but Hunter denies him.

Cain tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cain has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cain tries for a kimura but Hunter is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gray Hunter dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Caidal Cain's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hunter drives through with a takedown into guard.

Cain is working an open guard so Hunter takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hunter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cain pinned against the cage. Cain gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hunter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cain.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cain is defended easily by Hunter.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cain.
Gray Hunter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Caidal Cain.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cain moves out of range as Hunter strikes.
Some wild striking there from Hunter.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cain is defended easily by Hunter.
Hunter throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Cain circles away from the clinch attempt.

Hunter is looking for a sweep. Cain is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hunter pushes Cain off and gets back to his feet.
Cain keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cain swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hunter counters with a left and a right that stings Cain.
Hunter fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Cain is out of range.
Cain shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hunter sprawls well. Hunter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cain gets slowly back to his feet.

Hunter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cain to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Cain drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Cain seems to have locked his on tight now - Hunter screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Cain, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Caidal Cain!
