Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Meng Rao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Daniel Alves!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves misses with a double jab.
Rao tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Alves swivels and escapes.
Meng Rao seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rao fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rao closes the distance and clinches up with Alves, looking for a takedown. Rao pushes Alves against the cage but Alves circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Meng Rao. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rao avoids the head kick by Alves.
Alves lands with a thumping leg kick.
A head kick misses from Alves.
Alves throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Rao tries for a takedown but Alves sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rao fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alves sprawls well initially but Rao persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Alves is trying to stand.
Rao seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Rao tries to pass the half guard into mount. Alves knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Rao is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Alves defends it well.
Alves is trying to stand back up but Rao is controlling him
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rao is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rao is breathing heavily.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Alves throws a nice inside leg kick.
Alves stuffs the takedown.
Rao shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Alves pinned against the cage. Alves gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Alves closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Rao is rocked!
Whack! Alves lands a heavy head kick that drops Rao. The ref tackles Alves to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Rao was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Daniel Alves!
