PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Junior Pacquiao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Silent Slugger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pacquiao kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Halik ni Hudas. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Junior Pacquiao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Silent Slugger!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pacquiao fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Slugger misses with a takedown

so Pacquiao counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Slugger is pulling down on Pacquiao's head to control his posture.
Pacquiao controls from within his opponent's guard.

Pacquiao gets to his feet - Slugger follows without any prompting.
Pacquiao doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Slugger counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pacquiao moves into full guard.
Pacquiao looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Pacquiao keeping moving, preventing Slugger from controlling successfully.

Pacquiao looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pacquiao wants to stand and escape but Slugger is having none of it.
Slugger wants to control from the top but Pacquiao keeps moving.

Pacquiao seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pacquiao throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pacquiao slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Pacquiao would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Pacquiao tries to clinch up but Slugger circles away and keeps his distance.

and Pacquiao counters by moving into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slugger is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Pacquiao gets control of Slugger's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pacquiao will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Slugger doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Pacquiao counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Pacquiao tries to stand and escape but Slugger is controlling the position.
Pacquiao looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Pacquiao has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pacquiao working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Slugger's thigh. Slugger counters though and makes it back to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pacquiao stays in close to Slugger's body and controls the position.
Slugger preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Slugger can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pacquiao controls the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Junior Pacquiao just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Pacquiao throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Slugger.

Pacquiao closes the distance and pushes Slugger back into the cage.

Pacquiao has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Slugger regains guard immediately.

Pacquiao not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Pacquiao seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Slugger for as long as he can get away with.

Pacquiao gets to his feet. Slugger looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

And that's the end of the fight!
Junior Pacquiao showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pacquiao, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
