The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maria misses with a head kick.
Velasqez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Maria swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Maria - that will leave a mark!
A head kick from Maria lands but Velasqez takes it in his stride.
It looks like Cain Velasqez has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Maria lands a big head kick that sends Velasqez tumbling to the mat! Maria takes a step backwards and waves Velasqez back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Maria lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Velasqez looks gassed!
Maria keeps Velasqez at a distance using the push kick.
Maria lands a front kick.
Velasqez takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Maria throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Velasqez crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Maria - the referee stops the clock and Velasqez gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Maria. Velasqez manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maria lands a brutal head kick. Velasqez looks out on his feet and Maria throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
