Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Petey Pablo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Toby Kensmith! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pablo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kensmith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kensmith is looking for a sweep. Kensmith sneaks back into half guard. Kensmith looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kensmith is trying to get back to full guard. Kensmith is staying active underneath Pablo, who seems content to just control the action from this position. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Pablo closes the distance and lands a one-two. Pablo shoots in and bounces Kensmith off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Kensmith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pablo!
That's one minute gone in the round. Kensmith prevents Pablo from getting the reversal. Pablo tries to hold on but Kensmith postures up. Kensmith lands a big shot there that rocks Pablo but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Kensmith jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Pablo is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Pablo and Kensmith has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Pablo tries to bench press Kensmith off him but Kensmith keeps the position. Kensmith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pablo has escaped the position, nice work there. Kensmith looks gassed! Kensmith working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Kensmith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Kensmith throws an elbow but Pablo slips to the side and avoids it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kensmith swings around for an armbar but Pablo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kensmith's guard. Pablo wants to stand but Kensmith has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Kensmith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pablo! Pablo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kensmith on the ground. Kensmith looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Kensmith quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Kensmith but it's paid off an Pablo is forced to tap! Nice work by Kensmith.
